New York Yankees win a wild slugfest in London over the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place in London, England and the final score was 17-13.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Luke Voit had four hits and DJ LeMahieu had four hits to lead the offense which there was plenty of. 

Tanaka pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and six runs.  He walked two.  Chad Green won his second game of the season pitching two innings and giving up four hits and no runs with a strikeout, David Hale pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched three innings giving up five hits and five runs with three strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and he didn’t record an out, Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he walked one and Zach Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Rick Porcello pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up five hits and six runs with a walk.  Colten Brewer pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Steven Wright took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up five hits and two runs with a  walk and two strikeouts and Mike Shawaryn pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up six hits and eight runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Josh Taylor pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect inning and Hector Velasquez pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  Marcus Walden pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

LeMahieu had four hits and five RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Voit had four hits and an RBI, Gio Urshela had a hit and Didi Gregorius had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Edward Encarnacion had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had two hits and two RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits and drew two walks.  Brett Gardner had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Voit hit three doubles and Gregorius, Encarnacion, LeMahieu and Urshela each hit a double.  Hicks, Gardner and Judge each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 9-18 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Mookie Betts had a hit and drew two walks, Rafael Devers had two hits and an RBI and Marco Hernandez had a hit and an RBI.  Xander Bogaerts had a hit and drew two walks, J.D. Martinez had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Christian Vasquez had a hit and an RBI.  Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI, Sandy Leon had two hits and Michael Chavis had two hits, six RBI and drew a walk.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had four hits and an RBI, Devers hit two doubles and Martinez hit a double.  Chavis hit two homeruns and Bradley Jr. hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 6-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the first Voit hit an RBI double, Gregorius hit a two-run double and Encarnacion hit an RBI double.  Hicks hit a two-run homerun and it was 6-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the first Devers hit an RBI double, Vasquez hit a sac fly and Holt an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 6-3.  Chavis hit a three-run homerun and the game was tied at six.  In the third Gardner hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees back the lead at 8-6.  In the fourth Gardner drew an RBI walk and LeMahieu hit a three-run double to push the Yankees lead to 12-6.  Judge hit a two-run homerun and it was 14-6.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single and LeMahieu hit a two-run single to make it a 17-6 game.  In the sixth Bradley Jr. hit a solo homerun and in the seventh Chavis hit a three-run homerun and Hernandez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 17-11.  Bogaerts drew an RBI walk and Martinez hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 17-13 but that would be the final score. 

The game was the first baseball game in England and they will play game two of the two game series on Sunday morning American time.
