New York Yankees fail to sweep the Colorado Rockies


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-4.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees offense only managed four hits. 

Paxton pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and seven runs with four of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out six.  Paxton lost his fifth game of the season.  Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Stephen Tarpley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

German Marquez pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Marquez won his ninth game of the season.  Scott Oberg pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Wade Davis pitched a perfect inning. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Mike Tauchman had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, LeMahieu, Tauchman and Hicks each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Voit committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Charlie Blackmon had four hits and an RBI, Trevor Story had two hits and two RBI and Nolan Arenado had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy had a hit, Ian Desmond drew a walk and David Dahl had two hits and two RBI.  Ryan McMahon drew a walk, Chris Iannetta drew three walks, Arenado and Blackmon each hit a double.  Story hit two doubles and Blackmon hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Dahl and McMahon each had a stolen base. 

In the first Blackmon hit a solo homerun to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first LeMahieu hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the third Arenado hit a two-run double to give the Rockies a 3-1 lead.  Dahl hit a two-run single and it was 5-1 Rockies.  In the fourth Story hit a two-run double to extend the Rockies lead to 7-1.  In the fifth Tauchman hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the eighth a passed ball made it 8-2.  In the eighth Hicks hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 8-4 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will head to Minnesota to take on the Twins Monday night for the first of three.
