The New York
Mets defeated the Miami Marlins in game one of a doubleheader on Monday
afternoon. The game took place at Citi
Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2. Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he
pitched well. Jeff McNeil and Ahmed
Rosario each had two hits to lead the offense.
deGrom
pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and eight
strikeouts. deGrom earned his seventh
win of the season. Justin Wilson pitched
an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Edwin Diaz pitched an
inning giving up a walk and he struck out two.
Robert Dugger
pitched five innings giving up five hits and six runs with four walks and three
strikeouts. Dugger lost his first game of
the season. Tayron Guerrero pitched an
inning giving up a walk and he struck out two and Wei-Yin Chen pitched two
innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.
McNeil had
two hits and an RBI, Rosario had two hits and an RBI and Michael Conforto drew
a walk. Pete Alonso had a hit and an
RBI, J.D. Davis had an RBI and drew a walk and Todd Frazier drew a walk. Juan Lagares drew three walks, deGrom had a
hit and two RBI and McNeil and Rosario each hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring
position and left eight men on base.
Jon Berti had
two hits, Isan Diaz had a hit and an RBI and Brian Anderson had a hit. Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI, Miguel
Rojas drew a walk and Jorge Alfaro drew a walk.
Martin Prado had a hit, Anderson, Castro and Berti each hit a double and
Diaz hit a homerun. The Marlins were 1-9
with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Berti had a stolen base and Cooper committed
an error.
In the first
McNeil hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the second Castro hit an RBI double to tie
the game at one. In the third Rosario
hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth deGrom hit a two-run single to push the lead to 4-1. In the fifth Alonso hit an RBI single and Davis
hit a sac fly to make it a 6-1 game. In
the sixth Diaz hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-2 and that would be the
final score.
This was the
first of a four-game series and first of two games on the day.
