The New York Mets were defeated by
the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The game
took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and the final score was 7-1. Steven Matz started for the Mets and he didn’t
pitch well. Amed Rosario had three hits
and Wilson Ramos had two hits to lead the Mets offense.
Matz lost his fourth game of the
season and he pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs. He walked two and struck out five. Wilmer Font pitched a perfect inning, Hector
Santiago pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and
Tyler Bashlor pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one.
Merrill Kelly pitched 7 2/3 innings
giving up six hits and a run. He walked none
and struck out ten and won his fifth game of the season. Archie Bradley pitched to one batter and got
him out and Stefan Crichton pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.
Rosario had three hits, Ramos had
two hits and an RBI and Matz had a hit.
Ramos hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
Davis committed an error.
Ketel Marte had two hits and three
RBI, Tim Locastro had a hit and drew a walk and Eduardo Escobar had two hits
and two RBI. Adam Jones had a hit,
Christian Walker had two hits and an RBI and Ildemaro Vargas had two hits, an
RBI and drew a walk. Carson Kelly drew a
walk, Kevin Cron drew a walk and Walker and Vargas each hit a double. Escobar and Marte each hit a homerun and the
Diamondbacks were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on
base. Kelly had a passed ball.
In the first Marte hit a solo
homerun and Escobar hit a two-run homerun to give the Diamondbacks a 3-0
lead. In the second Ramos hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 3-1. In the
bottom of the fifth Walker hit an RBI single and Vargas hit an RBI single to
make it a 5-1 game. In the eighth Marte
hit a two-run single to push the lead to 7-1 and that would be the final
score.
The Mets will be off on Monday and
come home to take on the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.
