New York Yankees are shutdown by the Baltimore Orioles

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.  The game took place at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida and the final score was 2-1.  Michael King started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees offense only managed three hits. 

King pitched four innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Jonathan Loaisiga took his first loss of the spring pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Luis Cessa pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  

Matt Harvey started for the Orioles and he pitched four innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Mac Sceroler pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Tyler Wells pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Dillon Tate pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and picking up his first save of the spring. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and Gio Urshela had a hit and an RBI.  Derek Dietrich had a hit, Urshela hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base. 

Trey Mancini had a hit, Anthony Santander had a hit and Tyler Nevin had a hit.  Chance Sisco drew a walk, Pat Valaika had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Ramon Urias had an RBI.  Valaika hit a double and Valaika hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Hall committed an error. 

In the second Urshela hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Urias hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one and Valaika hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  The final score was 2-1. 

The Yankees will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin on Sunday afternoon.
