The New York Yankees were defeated
on Friday night by the Boston Red Sox.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 5-2. Michael King
started for the Yankees and he wasn’t great.
DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres each had two hits to lead
the offense.
King pitched 5 1/3 innings giving
up six hits and four runs. He walked
none and struck out five and took his third loss of the season. Lucas Luetge pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up
two hits and a run with a strikeout and Nestor Cortes pitched two innings
giving up a hit and he struck out four.
Nathan Eovaldi started for the Red
Sox and he pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs with only one
of them being earned. He won his seventh
game of the season and he struck out seven without allowing a walk. Hirokazu Sawamura pitched two innings giving
up a walk and he struck out five and Matt Barnes pitched an inning with three
strikeouts. He earned his 13th
save of the season.
LeMahieu had two hits, Giancarlo
Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Judge had two hits and an RBI. Gio Urshela had a hit, Torres had two hits
and Judge hit a homerun. The Yankees
were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Alex Verdugo had a hit, J.D.
Martinez had a hit and Xander Bogaerts had two hits. Rafael Devers had a hit and three RBI, Hunter
Renfroe had a hit and Marwin Gonzalez had two hits and two RBI. Christian Arroyo had a hit, Martinez hit a
double and Gonzalez hit two doubles.
Devers hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-7 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
Gonzalez committed two errors.
In the first Devers hit a three-run
homerun to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.
In the sixth Gonzalez hit a two-run double to extend the lead to
5-0. In the bottom of the sixth Judge
hit a solo homerun and an error brought home another run cutting the lead to
5-2. That would be the final score.
