New York Yankees squeak out a win with some dominant pitching

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 1-0.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and he pitched great and Clay Holmes and Aroldis Chapman got the last five outs.  The offense only managed five hits in this one and no one had more then a hit. 

Cortes took a no-hitter into the eighth inning.  He pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he walked four with 11 strikeouts.  Holmes won his fourth game of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both and Chapman picked up his seventh save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Jon Gray started for the Rangers and left with an injury.  He pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Brock Burke pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with five strikeouts and Brett Martin pitched an inning with two hits and a run and he lost his third game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and an RBI.  Josh Donaldson had a hit, Joey Gallo had a hit and drew a walk and Jose Trevino had a hit.  Rizzo hit a double and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Corey Seager drew a walk, Jonah Heim had a hit and drew a walk and Nick Solak drew a walk.  Eli White had a hit and drew a walk and the Rangers were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Miller had a stolen base and Solak had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the eighth Rizzo hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will now start a two-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  They will remain at Yankee Stadium.
