The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. The game
took place at
Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg,
Florida and the final score was 4-2.
Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched ok. The offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had
three hits.
Severino pitched 6 1/3 innings
giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. He lost his first game of the season. Ron Marinaccio pitched 2/3 of an inning
giving up two walks and he struck out one and Clarke Schmidt pitched a perfect
inning.
Shane McClanahan started for the
Rays and he pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with no walks
and seven strikeouts. He won his fifth
game of the season, Jason Adam pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts,
Colin Poche pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and J.P. Feyereisen
pitched a perfect inning. Feyereisen
saved his first game of the season.
DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Aaron Judge
had two hits and an RBI and Torres had three hits and an RBI. Miguel Andujar had two hits, Isiah
Kiner-Falefa had a hit and Torres and Judge each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring
position and left seven men on base.
Torres had a stolen base.
Wander Franco drew a walk, Ji
Man-Choi had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Taylor Walls had a hit, an RBI
and drew a walk. Harold Ramirez had an
RBI and drew a walk, Mike Zunino had an RBI and Choi and Walls each hit a homerun. The Rays were 0-3 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Diaz committed an error.
In the second Torres hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second Choi hit a solo homerun to tie the game at
one. In the bottom of the fifth Walls
hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh Ramirez had an RBI walk pushing the lead to
3-1 and Zunino was hit by a pitch and a run scored making it 4-1. In the eighth Judge hit a solo homerun
cutting the lead to 4-2 but that would be the final score.
The two teams split the four game
series and the Yankees will have an off day on Monday and head home to begin a
three-game series with the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.
