Yankees have unbelievable ninth inning rally to steal win over the Pittsburgh Pirates as Aaron Judge hits 60th homer

 

The New York Yankees rallied to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-8.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen didn’t do so well.  Gleyber Torres, Josh Donaldson, Harrison Bader and Jose Trevino each had two hits to lead the Yankees offense.  Aaron Judge hit homerun number 60. 

Cortes pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts.  Ron Marinaccio pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Lou Trivino pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and three runs with two being earned.  He walked two and struck out one, Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman picked up his third win of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Luis Ortiz started for the Pirates and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five, Duane Underwood Jr. pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Robert Stephenson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Yohan Ramirez pitched a perfect inning.  Wil Crowe pitched giving up four hits and five runs with a walk and he didn’t record an out. 

Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and Torres had two hits and drew a walk.  Donaldson had two hits, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk and Oswaldo Cabrera drew a walk.  Bader had two hits, three RBI, Trevino had two hits and an RBI and Rizzo hit a double.  Judge and Stanton each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 6-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Rizzo committed an error. 

Bryan Reynolds had four hits and two RBI, Rodolfo Castro had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Diego Castillo had a hit.  Jack Suwinski had a hit and drew a walk, Kevin Newman had two hits and O’Neil Cruz drew three walks.  Greg Allen had an RBI, Jason Delay had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Delay hit a double, Reynolds and Castro each hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Newman had a stolen base and Reynolds and Cruz each committed an error. 

In the fourth Allen hit a sac fly to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Bader hit an RBI single tying the game at one.  Trevino hit an RBI single and it was 2-1 Yankees.  In the sixth Delay hit a two-run double giving the Pirates a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Bader hit a two-run single giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the seventh Reynolds hit a solo homerun to tie the game at four.  In the eighth Reynolds hit an RBI single giving the Pirates a 5-4 lead, Castro hit a three-run homerun and it was 8-4 Pirates.  In the bottom of the ninth Judge led off hitting his 60th homerun and cutting the lead to 8-5.  After a double, walk and a single Stanton stepped up to the plate and hit a walk-off Grand Slam to give the Yankees the 9-8 victory.  The two teams will play game two of two on Wednesday night.
