The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.
The game took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and the final
score was 7-0. Nestor Cortes started for
the Yankees and had a horrible first inning but then settled down. The bullpen wasn’t great and the offense did
pretty much nothing.
Cortes took his first loss of the
season pitching five innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two walks
and two strikeouts. Victor Gonzalez
pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout
and Jake Cousins pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with one
being earned and he walked one and struck out four.
Zac Gallen started for the Diamondbacks,
and he earned his second victory of the season.
He pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs with three walks
and six strikeouts. Scott McGough
pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Ryan Thompson pitched a perfect
inning and Bryce Jarvis pitched a perfect inning.
Gleyber Torres drew a walk, Juan
Soto had a hit and Aaron Judge drew a walk.
Anthony Volpe had a hit, Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and
the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on
base. Cabrera committed an error and
Soto had an outfield assist. Gonzalez
had a pickoff and Wells had a passed ball.
Ketel Marte had two hits, Blaze
Alexander had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Jace Peterson drew a
walk. Christian Walker had two hits and
three RBI, Eugenio Suarez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Gabriel Moreno had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk, Jake McCarthy had two hits and Geraldo Perdomo had two hits. Marte hit a double, Walker hit a homerun and
the Diamondbacks were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men
on base. Alexander had a stolen base,
McCarthy was caught stealing.
In the bottom of the first
Alexander hit an RBI single, Suarez hit an RBI single and Moreno hit an
RBI single to give the Dbacks a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh Walker hit a three-run homerun pushing the
lead to 6-0 and in the bottom of the eighth a wild pitch made it 7-0 which would
be the final score. The two teams will
play the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon.
