New York Yankees bats are silenced as they drop series to the Atlanta Braves

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched a couple of solid innings and the offense was led by Ben Rice and Trent Grisham who each had two hits. 

Cortes pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with seven strikeouts.  Cortes lost his sixth game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three and Clay Holmes pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Max Fried started for the Braves and he pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run with four strikeouts.  Fried picked up his seventh win of the season.  Pierce Johnson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out a batter, Joe Jimenez pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he earned his 20th save of the season. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and an RBI, Juan Soto had a hit and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Rice had two hits, Grisham had two hits and Volpe hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Jarred Kelenic had a hit and two RBI, Ozzie Albies had a hit and an RBI and Marcell Ozuna had two hits.  Ramon Laureano had a hit, Orlando Arcia had a hit and it was a double and Kelenic hit a homerun.  The Braves were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the top of the third Kelenic hit a solo homerun giving the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the fifth Kelenic hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 2-0.  Albies hit an RBI single and it was 3-0 Braves.  In the bottom of the sixth Volpe hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 3-1 but that was the final score.  The Braves took two out of three in the series and the Yankees will be off on Monday.  They will begin a two-game series with the New York Mets on Tuesday night.
