The New York Yankees defeated the Texas
Rangers in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the
Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-0.
Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and had some control issues but
pitched well. The bullpen was good and
Aaron Judge led the offense with three hits.
Rodon pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up three hits and five walks and he struck out six. Rodon won his 13th game of the
season. Ron Marinaccio pitched 2 1/3
innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Tim Hill pitched an inning
giving up a hit.
Nathan Eovaldi started for the
Rangers and he pitched three innings giving up six hits and three runs. He walked two and struck out four and lost
his sixth game of the season. Brock
Burke pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks
and two strikeouts and Grant Anderson pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up a hit and
a run with two walks and three strikeouts.
Alex Verdugo had a hit and drew a
walk, Juan Soto had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Judge had three hits,
an RBI and drew a walk. Austin Wells had
two hits and four RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI and Jazz Chisholm Jr.
had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.
Ben Rice had a hit, Trent Grisham drew a walk and Oswaldo Cabrera had a
hit. Wells, Judge and Cabrera each hit a
double and Chisholm Jr. hit a homerun.
The Yankees were 5-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men
on base.
Marcus Semien drew a walk, Josh
Jung had two hits and Wyatt Langford drew a walk. Nathaniel Lowe drew a walk, Adolis Garcia had
two hits and Robbie Grossman had a hit and drew a walk. Jonah Heim drew a walk, Garcia hit a double
and the Rangers were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on
base.
In the bottom of the first Torres
hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third Wells hit a
two-run double extending the lead to 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth Judge hit an RBI double and it was 4-0
Yankees. Wells hit a two-run single
making it 6-0. In the bottom of the
fifth Soto hit an RBI groundout pushing the lead to 7-0. In the bottom of the eight Chisholm Jr. hit a
solo homerun and the score was 8-0 which would be the final score. The two teams will play game two and then
finish the series on Sunday afternoon.
