New York Yankees offense explodes late to down the Kansas City Royals

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-4.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, better then even the results indicate.  The bullpen did their job, and the offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits and Austin Wells who had four RBI. 

Rodon started for the Yankees, and he pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out nine.  Jake Cousins pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two and earned his second win of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Ian Hamilton pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Brady Singer started for the Royals, and he pitched five innings giving up five hit and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Sam Long pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two, James McArthur pitched giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and not recording an out and took his seventh loss of the season.  Carlos Hernandez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Chris Stratton pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Torres had three hits and an RBI, Juan Soto had a hit and three walks and Aaron Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wells had two hits and four RBI which matched a career high.  Jazz Chisholm drew two walks, Jasson Dominguez had a hit, Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Verdugo had two hits and two RBI.  Cabrera and Wells each hit a double and Verdugo and Wells each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Dominguez and Chisholm Jr. each had a stolen base, Chisolm Jr. committed an error and Wells committed an error.  Cousins had a pickoff.  Wells had a passed ball. 

Bobby Witt Jr. had a hit, Salvador Perez had four hits and three RBI and Robbie Grossman drew a walk.  Hunter Renfroe had a hit and an RBI, MJ Melendez drew a walk and Maikel Garcia had a hit.  Kyle Isbel drew a walk, Perez and Renfroe each hit a homerun and the Royals were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Pham had a stolen base and Isbel was picked off.  Perez committed two errors. 

In the top of the first Perez hit an RBI single giving the Royals a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the third Perez hit a solo homerun pushing the Royals lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Cabrera walked and Dominguez stole third base and scored on an error cutting the lead to 2-1.  Verdugo hit a two-run homerun and the Yankees had a 3-2 lead.  In the top of the fifth Perez hit an RBI single tying the game at three.  In the top of the sixth Renfroe hit a solo homerun giving Kansas City back the lead at 4-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Judge hit an RBI single tying the game at four.  Wells hit a three-run homerun giving the Yankees a 7-4 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Torres hit an RBI single, Judge grounded into a double play and a run scored and Wells hit an RBI double making the lead 10-4.  That would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.
