Yanks 40 man roster moves

The New York Yankees added 7 men to their 40 man roster today. This is all in preperation for the Rule 5 draft which is coming up in December. The rule 5 draft for those who don't know is a draft for minor league players that aren't on the 40 man roster and have played 6 or more years in the minors to be taken by any other team, the catch is they have to stay on the roster for the whole year otherwise be offered back to their old team. Here are the players that were added according to Chad Jennings of the Journal News: Hector Noesi Ivan Nova Romulo Sanchez Austin Jackson Reegie Corona Eduardo Nunez Kevin Russo Austin Jackson is the Yankees #2 prospect and Kevin Russo really established himself this year as a super utility type guy. Corona was taken last year but then brought back to the Yankees. Noesi, Nova and Sanchez are all pitchers. If you want to learn more about these guys check out the lohud yankees blog where Chad Jennings has more on these guys. He worked with Scranton for the last 7 years or so and brings great knowledge about the minor leagues to that blog, great job by him.

The New York Yankees take on the Baltimore Orioles in game 2 of their 3 game series. The game is on at 7:05 on the YES network. The Yankees start the day 6 1/2 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox for first in the AL East and 4 1/2 ahead of the Angels for homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. Here are the pregame notes and lineup from Peter Abraham and his Lohud Yankees Blog. The Yankees are 10-3 against the Orioles this season and have won 8 straight. A.J. Burnett is 0-4 with a 6.03 era in his last 6 starts. He was 5-0 with a 2.01 era in his 6 starts. Burnett is 9-1 with a 4.61 era against the Orioles in his career. Robinson Cano is 22 of his last 48 with 5 homeruns and 15 rbi's against Baltimore this season. MO is 5 strikeouts away from 1,000 and one game away from tying Cy Young for the 20th most appearances all time. A-rod needs 2 more hits for 2,500 in his career. Phil Hughes in his last 9 outings has gone 8 2/3 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 11 strikeouts. Johnny Damon has a 7 game hitting streak. Melky Cabrera is 6 of his last 15, Damaso Marte has not allowed a hit in 2 1/3 innings since he came off the DL. These guys are all hot. The guys who aren't so hot are Brian Bruney who has put 14 runners on base in his last 8 2/3 innings. Phil Coke has a 10.64 era in his last 14 outings. The callups are Francisco Cervelli, Ramiro Pena, Mark Melancon, Edwar Ramirez and Mike Dunn. Yanks try to finish off homestand in style

The New York Yankees finish their 10 game homestand today with a 1:05 game against the Oakland A's. Dallas Braden is on the mound for Oakland who stats wise is their best pitcher, I can't see the Yankees doing much worse then yesterday when they couldn't hit Gio Gonzalez at all. The game is on Yes. The Yankees will leave after the game for Tampa where they will start a big 3 game series with the Tampa Bay Rays and then they will continue on to play the White Sox for 3 and 2 with Toronto before coming home for a huge 4 game series with the Boston Red Sox. Peter Abraham is off today so there isn't much notes but the big thing is Brett Gardner is on the DL with a broken thumb, he did it yesterday breaking up a double play in the first inning. He will be in a cast for at least two weeks. The only other outfielders on the 40 man roster are Shelly Duncan, John Rodriguez and Austin Jackson. It will be interesting to see who they call up but for now Jon Albaladejo will be on the team for today and then tomorrow they will send him back down and send someone else up. A-rod is just getting the day off as he has looked lethargic lately. Yankees lineup: Jeter(SS) Damon(LF) Tex(1B) Posada(C) Matsui(DH) Swisher(RF) Cano(2B) Cabrera(CF) Ransom(3B)
