Grapefruit League Game 20- Astros at Mets

The New York Mets take on the Houston Astros at 1:10PM today from Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie. Here is todays lineup and scheduled pitchers. Mets Lineup: Pagan(CF) Castillo(2B) Wright(3B) Bay(LF) Murphy(1B) Francoeur(RF) Cora(SS) Barajas(C) Santana(P) Jon Niese, Francisco Rodriguez, Pat Misch, Sean Green and Elmer Dessens are scheduled to pitch behind Santana. Jose Reyes was back this morning, he was working out with the team, taking grounders etc. Doc Gooden was arrested yesterday for DUI, this is a sad thing. He just can never seem to get his life together. He was such a promising prospect so long ago with the Mets and never kept up his status because of his substance abuse problems. He later was with the Yankees and had some good moments and then after baseball continues to get himself in trouble. I will have more on Jose Reyes later on today. According to Joel Sherman of the NY Post he believes that the Mets are shopping Gary Matthews Jr., the Reds may be a possibility.

Mets Lose to Cardinals

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals today by the score of 6-5. John Maine got the start and pitched pretty well today. He allowed 2 runs and 2 hits in 4 innings. Pat Misch and Francisco Rodriguez didn't pitch so well either. Francisco Rodriguez allowed 2 runs and Pat Misch allowed a run. Misch allowed 2 hits and 2 walks, Rodriguez allowed 3 hits and 2 runs with a strikeout. Sean Green pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and Elmer Dessens pitched a inning giving up a hit. Kiko Calero gave up a hit and a run without giving up a hit. Gary Matthews Jr. gave up a hit and Ike Davis had a hit and rbi. Luis Castillo and Russ Adams had a hit. Fernando Martinez and Alex Cora each had a hit. Henry Blanco gave up a hit and Chris Coste had a hit and rbi. Frank Catalanotto had a hit and 2 rbi. The Mets play split squads tomorrow, one at Kissimmee against the Astros and one game at Tradition Field against the University Of Michigan. According to Adam Rubin of the NY Daily News the Mets have released Josh Fogg.

The New York Mets defeated the Florida Marlins by the score of 5-2 in Jupiter tonight. Oliver Perez got the start and pitched pretty well. He went 4 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs. He walked 1 and struck out 2. Ryota Igarashi pitched an inning giving up 1 hit and 1 walk. He also had 2 strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez pitched an inning and got the win. He gave up 2 hits but no runs or walks. He didn't strike out a batter. Pedro Feliciano pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up 2 hits and 0 runs. He had a strikeout. Hisanori Takahashi pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits with a walk and strikeout. David Wright had a hit and Fernando Martinez had a hit and rbi. Jason Bay had 2 hits and 2 rbi. Jeff Francoeur had a hit and 2 rbi, Ruben Tejada and Alex Cora each had a hit. The Mets will take on the Twins tomorrow from Tradition Field. The game is at 1:10PM on SNY. Fernando Martinez continues to have a great spring. He is 15 for 27 with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homeruns and 11 rbi. Hisanori Takahashi has pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings this spring.

New York Mets lose to Boston Red Sox and start spinning the Reyes News

The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox by the score of 8-2 today at Tradition Field. The more important thing is they once again are without their starting SS for who knows how long. The Mets originally said earlier today that he would be out 28 weeks and his rest will be starting now. They have now said this afternoon that his rest actually started last week. Here we go again, what is it because his agent said he was working out on Monday and Tuesday of this week and they backed that up earlier today but are now backtracking. This is typical Mets, they can't get their stories straight, especially when it has to do with an injury or illness. I don't know what can be done to prevent this, they claimed they were going to better this year with their focus on prevention and recovery. The Mets are already without Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran for at least a month, I am guessing 2 months. I don't think you will see them together until June. Alex Cora is a nice guy and a good backup to have, but he is not a starter, and they will be hurt significantly by this. I wish Jose Reyes the best and hope he gets back on the field soon just because he is a exciting player to watch and the Mets will be better with him on the field. Here is the recap of the game, Mike Pelfrey got the start and pitched 3 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. He did strike out 4 and showed no lingering effects from getting hit on the knee his last start. Tobi Stoner, Pedro Feliciano and Elmer Dessens each pitched a scorless inning. Ryota Igarashi didn't pitch so good, he faced 6 batters in a inning and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. In the battle for a bench role, Frank Catalanotto was 0-3, he is now batting 125 this spring. Mike Jacobs hit a homerun. I think Jacobs is a guy who will make the team, he has good power off of the bench and can play first base. He actually finished with 2 hits, Alex Cora was 1-1. Chris Coste went 1-2. The Mets will play the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers tomorrow afternoon at 1:00PM.

The New York Mets defeated the Florida Marlins in Jupiter by the score of 11-2 today. John Maine made his first start of the spring and went 2 2/3 innings giving up 1 run and 2 hits. He also struck out 4 and threw 21 of his 39 pitches for strikes. Jenrry Mejia was impressive again pitching 3 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out one. He threw 27 of 33 pitches for strikes. He really seems to be on the fast track but I hope the Mets don't rush him, the best thing to do is send him to the minors and if he pitches great down there for a couple of months and you need a guy in the majors then bring him up. R.A. Dickey pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits with 1 walk and a strikeout, he did not allow a run. Ryota Igarashi pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and a run with a strikeout. Pedro Feliciano pitched a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts. The Mets offense was led by Chris Carter who had 2 ninth inning homeruns. Fernando Martinez was 2-5 with a rbi and Jason Bay was 1-3 with a rbi. Rod Barajas hit a solo homerun and Ike Davis continued his hot hitting going 2-3 with 2 rbi. He did have his second straight game with a error though. It looks like he will have to work on his defense but his hitting has been amazing. The Mets will take on the Astros tomorrow afternoon at 1 at Tradition Field. The game will be televised on SNY. Recap and Notes from the Mets Game this afternoon

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals as Space Coast Stadium today by the score of 14-6. Mike Pelfrey got the start and was not sharp. He pitched 3 innings giving up 7 hits and 4 runs with 3 earned. Eddie Kunz pitched a perfect inning. Eric Niesen pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and 2 runs with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Sean Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit, walk and 3 strikeouts. Elmer Dessens pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Fernando Martinez was the star of the show on offense with 2 homeruns. He ended up 4 for 4 with 2 rbi's. This is the guy the Mets have been looking for and he has been really good this spring. They thought they had a star in the making and maybe now he will live up to his potential. Mike Jacobs had a solo homerun and 2 walks. I think he has a good chance at winding up on the bench but it may come down to him or Frank Catalanatto. Ike Davis continues to impress going 3 for 5 with 2 rbi's. It may be hard for the Mets not to bring him north with them if he continues this. It still is smart though for the Mets to let him get some more seasoning in the minor leagues and if he continues to bring him up in June. Henry Blanco had a hit and rbi and Josh Thole had a hit. The mets prospects are really showing off to the Mets brass so far. The Mets will return to Tradition Field to play the Nationals tomorrow at 1:10PM. There is nothing new with Jose Reyes yet, he will get tested on Wednesday and hopefully will be back by Thursday. I think this may be a problem they can solve with medication but until they say for sure it is scary for the Mets and their fans to think about. It almost seems like last year all over with him and Beltran and Kelvim Escobar, even though they expected it with him. The Francisco Rodriguez issue is still not solved also with the pinkeye. To me that is the craziest one, how can they not know it was pinkeye? How does it take so long to get better?? If you have an answer for me I would love to hear it but I don't think there is an answer.

Mets lose their first grapefruit league game

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves today at Disneys Wide World Of Sports. The final score was 9-5, the Mets spring record is now even at 1-1. Pat Misch got the start for the Mets and was impressive pitching 3 scoreless innings, he did give up a couple of walks. He only allowed one hit. Eric Niesen pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up a hit and a walk. Eddie Kunz didn't fare so well giving up 4 runs and 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning. He also gave up 3 walks, his era stands at a horrible 108.00. Josh Stinson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits and 5 runs with a strikeout. Only one of the runs was earned. Neal Musser pitched 1 inning giving up a hit and a walk but no runs. I don't know any of these guys except for Misch and Kunz. Angel Pagan, Josh Thole and Daniel Murphy all had rbi singles. Fernando Martinez had a rbi triple. He had a good day going 2 for 3. Mike Cervenak had a rbi single. The Mets committed four errors in the seventh inning, I thought they were working on fundamentals, that is pretty hard to do. Matthew Cerrone has some video and pictures from todays action.
