Mets win a wild one

What can I say that game was unbelievable. The Mets defeated the Cardinals in 20 innings by the score of 2-1. There were position players pitching and pitchers playing the outfield. There was no score until the 19th inning when Jeff Francoeur hit a sac fly and then the Cardinals came right back to tie it. The Mets won it in the 20th on a Jose Reyes sac fly. The Mets have had these type of games in their history. The longest one in their history was in 1974 at Shea Stadium when they lost 4-3 to the Cardinals. They lost in 24 innings to the Houston Astros in 1968. It was the longest scoreless game in history. The Cardinals had plenty of chances but couldn't come through. Mike Pelfrey who started on Thursday closed out the game for the Mets. K-rod blew the save but was up in the bullpen a bunch of times. He said he was just gassed from getting up and sitting down so many times. The two teams will play tomorrow night at 8:05PM eastern time in Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. I wonder what they will do for an encore?? I will have my article I wrote for Worldnewsvine on here probably tomorrow morning.

Yankees pound the Angels

The New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim by the score of 10-1 to take a commanding 3 games to 1 lead in the ALCS. CC Sabathia pitching on 3 days rest was simply unbelievable. He is a horse and a true ace that is a throwback type of pitcher. He went 8 strong throwing only just over 100 pitches giving up 1 run on 5 hits with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Chad Guadin finished the game off with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. CC Sabathia was signed in the offseason for a crazy amount of money that a lot of people felt the Yankees were bidding against themselves and went overboard but he is showing that he is worth every penny. CC Sabathia has been everything and more that the Yankees could of dreamed of. He has lost one game since July 28th including going 3-0 in the playoffs with a 1.19 era. The other hero is A-rod who has just become the player everyone has been waiting for. He had a single, double, homerun. He now has a rbi in 8 straight postseason games which ties him for the ML record. He also now is one homerun behind Bernie Williams for most in one postseason in Yankees history. He is batting over 400 with 5 homeruns and 11 rbi's in 7 postseason games. Derek Jeter had a couple more hits but Melky Cabrera had 3 hits to get back on track, Robinson Cano had a couple of hits and Johnny Damon had a couple of hits once again. The Yankees offense had been struggling but got back on track this evening. The only guy that really hasn't done anything is Nick Swisher. Jorge Posada had a strong game today also. The Yankees will now have tomorrow off and have A.J. Burnett on the mound to send them to the World Series on Thursday night against John Lackey. I wonder if Joe Girardi will sit Nick Swisher and put Brett Gardner in CF and Melky Cabrera in RF.

George Steinbrenner makes a statement

The New York Yankees were home relaxing today and will have a workout at Yankee Stadium tomorrow. They will probably watch the Twins/Tigers game afterwards on the big screen inside the stadium. The Yankees owner George Steinbrenner made a statement today through publicist Howard Rubenstein. Here is what he had to say. This has been a tremendous year for our team as we have settled into our new home," Steinbrenner said in a statement issued by Howard Rubenstein. "The New York Yankees are proud of our rich history of outstanding players, and this year's team has worked hard to prove that they are worthy of the great distinction of calling themselves Yankees. "We look forward to finishing what we started this season and never losing sight of our goal -- to bring another championship to the best fans in the world and the great city of New York." It sounds great and hopefully if the Yankees make it to the ALCS the boss will be able to make it to NY. There is no news today as the Yankees will have their workout tomorrow and not finalize the rosters until they find out their opponent.

Yanks end season in Tampa

The New York Yankees will begin a 3 game series in Tampa to end the regular season. The only storyline is CC Sabathia trying to get 20 wins tonight. He is only expected to pitch 5 innings. Here are the pregame notes and lineup via Sam Borden of the Journal News. CC Sabathia and Adam Wainwright will both be going for 20 wins tonight to become the first pitchers to do it this season. CC Sabathia is 0-1 with a 4.35 era this season in 3 starts against Tampa. CC Sabathia is 9-0 with a 2.11 era in his last 11 starts. He will be the game 1 starter on Wed at home in the ALDS. Derek Jeter has led off the Yankees 1st inning with a hit in 10 of his last 16 games. He has done it a major league best 52 times this season. The Rays will finish this season with only the 2nd winning season in franchise history so it wasn't all bad this season for them. Yanks not sleepless in Seattle

http://gmarchese.blogspot.comThe New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners last night by the score of 5-2. Sergio Mitre got the start and didn't pitch too bad going 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits. Dave Robertson came on and pitched 1 scoreless inning giving up 2 hits but striking out 3. Phil Coke pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up 0 hits with 3 strikeouts. Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth for the save giving up a hit and walk but also striking out two. The offense was led by Derek Jeter who had 2 hits and 2 rbi's and Robinson Cano who had 2 hits. A-rod had a hit and a couple of walks. Nick Swisher had a 2 run homerun, Mark Teixeira had a hit, Jerry Hairston Jr had a hit and Jose Molina had a couple of hits and also a big play in the seventh throwing out Ichiro trying to steal third. The Yankees just keep rolling along now 7 1/2 games ahead of the Red Sox for first place in the AL East. Joba Chamberlain will get the start today after all and then not pitch again for another 8 days. The Yankees are now 23-6 since the all star break which is the best record in their history post all star break. Mariano Rivera has now completed 31 consecutive save chances matching his career high which he last accomplished in 2005. The Yankees bullpen has given up 1 run in their last 20 2/3 innings, this is just dominant and with that type of pitching you would expect to have a run like the Yankees have had. The other thing the Yankees pitchers do for the most part is get a lot of strikeouts, the bullpen had 8 last night and CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte had 10 in back to back games.

Yankees at Mariners

The New York Yankees take on the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field tonight at 10:10 on the YES network. Andy Pettitte is on the mound looking to keep it going. Here are the notes and lineup via Peter Abraham of the Lohud Yankees Blog. Seattle has scored only 3 runs in their last 32 innings. Andy Pettitte since the all star break has a 1.87 era and hitters are only hitting 210 against him. He is only 1-1 in 5 games though. Tonight will be Andy's 450th start. He is 224-133 for his career. He would become the 67th pitcher in history to win 225 games. Randy Johnson and Jaime Moyer are the only 2 active pitchers to have done it. Andy is 1-5 with a 4.26 era at Safeco Field so it isn't his favorite place. He is also 10-11 with a 4.58 against Seattle in his career so they aren't his favorite team either. The Indians are the only other AL team he has a losing record against. Johnny Damon is 17 of 43 in his last 10 games, 11 runs, 8 rbi's, 11 xbh and 5 strikeouts. Robinson Cano has hit safely in 11 straight games at 21 of 49. He is now hitting 318. Melky Cabrera is only 5 for his last 40 and Eric Hinske is 1 for his last 13. Brett Gardner needs to get well soon to give Melky a break. The team era of 4.29 is the lowest of the season. The Yankees are third in WHIP and second in K/9 in the AL. The Yankees have homered in 91 of their 115 games. Brian Bruney is starting to pitch better going 4 scoreless innings. He is from Oregon and has a lot of friends and family at this series. Joba will now start on Sunday and then not pitch again until they return home. I guess the Yankees got scared of having Mitre and Gaudin pitching on back to back days. Yankees Lineup: Jeter(SS) Damon(LF) Tex(1B) A-rod(3B) Matsui(DH) Posada(C) Cano(2B) Swisher(RF) Cabrera(CF)

Yankees at Red Sox

The Yankees will finally try and beat the Sox tonight in a very important game in lots of ways. The Yankees want to keep first place first of all, they need to get a win against the Bosox and its huge for Wang. I don't really feel good about this game but I hope the Yankees can hit the knuckler and they better run all day when they get on base no excuses for not running wild on him. Here are the pregame notes and lineup from Peter Abraham's Lohud Yankees Blog. This is the 33rd start Wakefield has had against the Yankees, he is 10-17 against them with a 5.03 era. He has more losses to the Yankees then any other team. Derek Jeter has 423 doubles and needs one more to tie Babe Ruth for fourth place in team history. The Yankees have at least on error in their past 7 games, this is weird to me after setting the record for most games without one. Melky is 4 for 28 since missing time with a shoulder injury. Jose Veras has pitched 23 2/3 innings this year putting 38 runners on base. He has given up 3 homeruns in his last 4 1/3 innings. The Yankees have hit at least one boston batter wiht a pitch in all 6 games this season and in nine straight dating back to last season. Boston's bullpen has allowed one earned run in the last 17 1/3 innings. Yankees lineup: Jeter(SS) Damon(LF) Big Tex(1B) A-rod(3B) Cano(2B) Posada(C) Matsui(DH) Swisher(RF) Cabrera(CF)
