The New York Mets rough up the Houston Astros

The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 9-1 tonight. The game was played in Port St. Lucie. The start was made by Mike Pelfrey and he pitched well. It was his best start of the spring and he really needed it. The bullpen pitched well, Daniel Murphy had two hits and David Wright hit a grand slam. 
Pelfrey pitched 6 1/3 innings getting the win. He gave up three hits and one run with three strikeouts. Daniel Herrera pitched to two batters and retired them both, Jon Rauch pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Josh Edgin pitched one inning giving up one hit and striking out one.

Ruben Tejada had an RBI, Murphy had two hits and Ronny Cedeno had a hit and an RBI. Wright had a hit and four RBI, Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Jason Bay had a hit and drew two walks. Scott Hairston had a hit, Cory Vaughn had a hit and Josh Thole had two hits and two RBI. Pelfrey had an RBI, Thole had a double and Wright had a homerun. The Mets were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Thole made an error which was catchers interference.

The Mets record improved to 7-16 in the grapefruit league. They will open the season in one week at home against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets will play at the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow afternoon at 1:05PM.
