The New York Mets lose 9-2 to the Tigers

The New York Mets were defeated by the Detroit Tigers by the score of 9-2. The game was on Sunday afternoon in Port St. Lucie, Florida. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched well and Daniel Herrera and Jon Rauch didn’t pitch so well in relief. The Mets managed two hits on the day. 
Dickey pitched four innings giving up three hits and one run with three strikeouts. Herrera got charged with a blown save and a loss. He pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and five runs with two walks, Rauch pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk. Josh Edgin pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up one hit and striking out three and Erik Turgeon pitched one inning giving up one hit.

Ruben Tejada and Daniel Murphy each drew a walk and so did David Wright. Ike Davis had a hit and two RBI, Jason Bay drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit. Mike Nickeas drew a walk, Davis had a homerun. The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base.

The Mets record fell to 7-19 in the grapefruit league. The Mets will play in Orlando against the Braves tomorrow afternoon at 12 noon. They will then take on the New York Yankees in a home and home series to cap off the grapefruit league. They will open up the regular season on Thursday afternoon at home against the Atlanta Braves. Johan Santana will make the start on Thursday.
