The Yankees pound the Red Sox in the Bronx

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 10-3 on Friday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx,NY. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen closed it out in the last couple of innings. Curtis Granderson led the Yankees offense, they hit three homeruns which accounted for eight of the ten runs. Aaron Cook started for the Red Sox and wasn’t very good. Dustin Pedroia led their offense, he was the only Sox player with a multi hit game. 
Hughes pitched seven innings giving up three runs on five hits. He walked a batter and struck out five and won his 10th game of the season. Hughes had a rough first inning so for him to battle through it and pitch seven was great. Dave Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and Cody Eppley pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out a couple. Cook pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs. He walked and struck out a batter and lost his fourth game of the season. Franklin Morales pitched two innings walking two and striking out two, Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Mark Melancon pitched an inning giving up two hits and four runs with a walk.

Derek Jeter had a hit and drew a walk, Granderson had three hits and four RBI and Robinson Cano had two hits. Mark Teixeira had two RBI, Raul Ibanez had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks and Andruw Jones had a hit. Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Russell Martin had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk. Granderson and Jones each had a double, Ibanez, Martin and Granderson each hit a homerun. Granderson hit a grand slam. The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base.

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Carl Crawford had a hit and an RBI and Pedroia had two hits and an RBI. Adrian Gonzalez had a hit, Cody Ross had a hit and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit and an RBI. Will Middlebrooks had a hit and Daniel Nava had a hit. Ross had a double, Pedroia, Crawford and Saltalamacchia each hit a homerun. The Red Sox were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

In the first the Red Sox took a 1-0 lead on a Pedroia solo homerun. The Yankees scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Teixeira grounded out to tie the game, it should have been a double play but he hustled and beat it out. Ibanez hit a two run homerun to make it a 3-1 game. Crawford hit a solo homerun in the third to cut the lead to 3-2. Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-2 game in favor of the Yankees. Saltalamacchia hit a solo homerun in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3. Martin hit a two run homerun in the fourth to make it 6-3 Yankees. The Yankee extended their lead to 10-3 in the eighth on a Granderson grand slam.

The Yankees took the first of three and sixth of seventh on the season. The Yankees improved their record to 60-39 on the season and the Red Sox dropped to 49-51. The two teams will play Saturday afternoon and then on Sunday night.
