The Yankees take the series in Seattle with a late rally

The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners by the score of 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and was wild but effective enough. The Yankees bullpen was great and Jayson Nix was their offensive hero. Hisashi Iwakuma started for the Mariners and pitched pretty well but didn’t have the endurance. The Mariners bullpen blew the game for them. The Mariners offense only produced three hits. 
Nova pitched five innings giving up two runs on two hits. He walked six and struck out five. Clay Rapada pitched 2/3 of an inning and didn’t give up a hit or a run, David Phelps earned his second win of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts and David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. Rafael Soriano saved his 26th game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. Iwakuma pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts. Oliver Perez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Josh Kinney pitched an inning giving up a run with two strikeouts and Lucas Luetge took his first loss of the season. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs. Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. Delabar pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Derek Jeter had three hits and an RBI and Robinson Cano had two hits. Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Nix had a hit and three RBI. Eric Chavez drew two walks and Russell Martin had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Cano and Nix each had a double. Jeter hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Granderson had a stolen base and Suzuki was caught stealing.

Michael Saunders had a hit, Jesus Montero had a hit and John Jaso drew three walks. Seager had an RBI and drew two walks, Mike Carp had an RBI and drew a walk and Casper Wells had a hit. The Mariners were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base.

In the first inning the Yankees took a 1-0 lead. Jeter hit a solo homerun. The Mariners came back with two runs in the bottom of the first. They got an RBI walk from Seager and a ground out from Carp to make it 2-1. In the eighth inning Nix hit a pinch hit three run double to make it 4-2 Yankees and Martin added an RBI single to make it 5-2 which was the final score.

The Yankees won two out of three in the series and ended their road trip at 2-5. The Yankees will have an off day on Thursday and then open up a three game series at home against the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees improved their record to 59-39. The Mariners record dropped to 43-57.
