The New York Mets blow a lead in the ninth and lose 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 3-2 on Wednesday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Matt Harvey started for the Mets and well in his last action of the year. The bullpen blew the save though for the Mets. The Mets offense was led by Ruben Tejada. Cole Hamels started for the Phillies and pitched well. Their bullpen pitched well also and the Phillies offense was led by Ryan Howard. 
Harvey pitched seven innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts. Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Josh Edgin blew his second save of the season and lost his second game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Jon Rauch pitched to one batter and struck out one. Hamels pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and ten strikeouts. Anthony Bastardo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and two strikeouts, Justin De Fratus pitched to one batter and struck him out and Phillippe Aumont pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and striking out one. Jeremy Horst won his second game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Jonathan Papelbon pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. Papelbon saved his 36th save of the season.

Tejada had three hits, Daniel Murphy had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and David Wright had a hit and an RBI. Scott Hairston had two hits, Ike Davis had two hits and Lucas Duda drew a walk. Justin Turner drew a walk, Hairston hit a double and Wright hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Tejada and Hairston each had a stolen base.

Jimmy Rollins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Chase Utley drew a walk and Ryan Howard had a hit and two RBI. Carlos Ruiz drew a walk, John Mayberry had a hit and Frandsen drew a walk. Rollins and Howard each hit a homerun. The Phillies were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Rollins hit a solo homerun to lead off the game and give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. Murphy hit an RBI single in the third to tie the game at one. Wright hit a solo homerun in the sixth to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. In the ninth Howard hit a two run homerun to make it 3-2 and the Phillies held on to win the game 3-2.

The Mets are now 66-82 and the Phillies are 75-74. The Mets have lost two games to the Phillies and will try and avoid the sweep on Thursday night in the makeup of Tuesday nights game. The Phillies are trying to hang in on the wild card race and the Mets are finishing out the season.
