The New York Yankees defeat the Boston Red Sox 5-2

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place in Fort Myers, Florida. The Yankees had mostly minor leaguers going in this game but were able to find a way to get a win. Adam Warren started for the Yankees and pitched well. Brett Gardner continued his hot spring.
Warren pitched three innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. Jose Ramirez picked up the win pitching three innings giving up three hits and striking out one, Chase Whitley pitched an inning striking out one and Preston Claiborne pitched to one batter and got him out. Josh Spence pitched to two batters and retired them both and Kelvin Perez pitched an inning giving up a run with two walks.

Gardner had a hit and a walk for the Yankees. Eduardo Nunez had a hit and an RBI, Jayson Nix had an RBI and Jose Pirela had a hit. JR Murphy had a hit and an RBI, Dan Johnson drew a walk and Thomas Neal had a hit and an RBI. Tyler Austin had a hit, Corban Joseph had a hit and Pirela, Austin and Murphy each hit a double. Neal hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Segedin and Maruszak each committed an error for the Yankees.

Ryan Dempster started for the Red Sox and pitched three innings giving up a hit and striking out two. Koji Uehara pitched a perfect inning, Andrew Miller struck out the side in his one inning of work and Joel Hanrahan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with one of them being earned. He walked two and struck out one taking the loss. Junichi Tazawa pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out three and Pete Ruiz pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.

Dustin Pedroia had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Mike Napoli had a hit and an RBI. Mauro Gomez drew a walk, Will Middlebrooks drew a walk and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit. Mike Carp drew a walk, Saltalamacchia hit a double and Napoli a homerun. The Red Sox were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Pedro Ciriaco had a stolen base and Sutton committed two errors.

The Yankees have now won two games in a row and are 3-7 on the spring. The Red Sox are 5-5 on the spring. The Yankees will have a rare day off in spring training on Monday and the Red Sox will host the Tampa Bay Rays.
