The New York Yankees were defeated by the Miami Marlins by the score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon. The game was played at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida. Adam Warren started the game for the Yankees and didn’t pitch very well. The Yankees bullpen pitched pretty well and the Yankees offense only managed five hits. Melky Mesa was the only player with more then one hit.
Warren pitched four innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and he took the loss. Chase Whitley pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs, Branden Pinder pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Mark Montgomery pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up two hits.
Brett Gardner drew a walk, Bobby Wilson drew a walk and Eduardo Nunez had a hit and drew a walk. Luke Murton had a hit, Mesa had two hits and Thomas Neal had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Ronnier Mustelier drew a walk, Neal hit a double and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Nunez was caught stealing.
Nathan Eovaldi pitched four innings for the Marlins. He got the win and gave up four hits and a run with three walks. John Maine pitched two perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts, Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up two walks and striking out one and Jon Rauch pitched a perfect inning. Zach Phillips pitched an inning giving up a hit.
Juan Pierre had a hit, Donovan Solano had two hits and Rob Brantly had two hits and drew a walk. Matt Downs had a hit and two RBI, Christian Yelich had an RBI and drew a walk and Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and two RBI. Casey Kotchman had a hit, Kevin Kouzmanoff had a hit and Gorkys Hernandez had a hit and an RBI. Downs and Brantly each hit a double and Hechavarria hit a triple. The Marlins were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Hernandez had a stolen base
The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Downs sacrifice fly. Hernandez had an RBI groundout in the second to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Downs hit an RBI double and Hechavarria had a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 in the third inning. Neal hit an RBI double in the fourth to get the Yankees on the board to make it a 4-1 lead. Yelich had an RBI groundout and Hechavarria hit an RBI triple in the fifth to complete the scoring and the final was 6-1 Marlins.
The Yankees record dropped to 3-10 in the spring and the Marlins are 5-5. The Yankees will host the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon and the Marlins will host the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.
