The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 7-5 on Saturday night. The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. Sean Marcum started for the Mets and pitched ok, their bullpen wasn’t bad. Ruben Tejada led the Mets offense with two hits.
Marcum pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs. He walked three and struck out four. LaTroy Hawkins pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and two strikeouts, Scott Atchison pitched an inning giving up a run and two walks and Scott Rice pitched to one batter and retired him. Brandon Lyon pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run, Bobby Parnell won his second game pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and picked up his first save of the season.
Tejada had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and David Wright had a hit and an RBI. John Buck had a hit and two RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI and Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI. Jordany Valdespin drew a walk, Tejada hit a double, Buck, Duda, Byrd and Wright each hit a homerun. The Mets were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Valdespin had a stolen base and Buck had a pickoff.
Mike Minor pitched seven innings giving up three hits and three runs with no walks and four strikeouts. Eric O’Flaherty pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Craig Kimbrel pitched an inning and blew a save. He gave up a hit and a run with three strikeouts, Jordan Walden pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and took the loss, Luis Avilan didn’t record an out and gave up a hit. Cory Gearrin faced one batter and retired him.
Jordan Schafer drew four walks, Andrelton Simmons had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Justin Upton had an RBI. Freddie Freeman had a hit, Evan Gattis had a hit and an RBI and Dan Uggla had two hits. B.J. Upton had two hits, Juan Francisco had a hit and an RBI and Ramiro Pena had two hits and drew a walk. Upton and Pena each hit a double, Gattis hit a homerun and the Braves were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Francisco was picked off.
Buck hit a two run homerun in the first to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. Duda hit a solo homerun in the second and the Mets took a 3-0 lead. In the third Francisco hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 Mets. Simmons hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game. J. Upton hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the fifth. Simmons grounded into a force out to give the Braves a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning. Byrd hit a solo homerun in the eighth to tie the game at four. Gattis hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-4 Braves. The Mets would tie the game in the ninth on a Wright solo homerun and send it to extra innings. In the tenth the Mets would score two runs to take a 7-5 lead. Tejada hit an RBI single and Murphy hit an RBI single and the Mets would hold on for the 7-5 victory.
The Mets record improved to 12-15 and the Braves record fell to 17-12. The two teams were scheduled to play on Saturday afternoon and have no makeup date as of now. The two teams will play on Sunday afternoon to conclude their series.
