The New York Mets are swept at home by the Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen was just ok. The Mets offense only managed three hits. 
Niese pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with one of them being earned. He walked one and struck out three and took the loss his second of the season. Scott Atchison pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Brandon Lyon pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Scott Rice faced one batter and retired him. Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning.

Ruben Tejada had two hits and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Lucas Duda drew a walk. Marlon Byrd drew a walk, Ike Davis drew a walk and Juan Lagares drew a walk. Tejada hit two doubles and the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Niese, Wright and Buck each committed an error.

Cole Hamels earned his first win of the year pitching six innings and giving up two hits and a run with six walks and eight strikeouts. Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit, Mike Adams and Jonathan Papelbon both pitched a perfect inning.

Jimmy Rollins had a hit, Ryan Howard had a hit and two RBI and Chase Utley had a hit and an RBI. Michael Young had a hit and drew a walk, Carlos Ruiz had a hit and Dominic Brown had a hit. John Mayberry had a hit and an RBI, Freddy Galvis had a hit and an RBI and Lance Nix had a hit. Ruiz, Mayberry and Howard each hit a double and Galvis hit a homerun. The Phillies were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Wright hit an RBI single in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Galvis hit a solo homerun in the fifth to tie the game at one. In the seventh Howard hit a two run double and Utley hit an RBI single to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead. Mayberry hit an RBI double in the eight to make it 5-1 Phillies and complete the scoring as that would be the final score.

The Phillies swept the three game series and improved their record to 12-14 and the Mets record dropped to 10-13. The Mets will head to Miami to take on the Miami Marlins on Monday night.
