The Chicago White Sox defeated the New York Mets. The final score was 5-4 and the game took place at US Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois. Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched ok for the Mets. The Mets bullpen was pretty good and offensively they didn’t do that much.
Wheeler pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out one. Carlos Torres pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a walk and LaTroy Hawkins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run. Hawkins took the loss his first of the season.
Eric Young Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Marlon Byrd had an RBI. Josh Satin had a hit and an RBI, John Buck had a hit and Andrew Brown had a hit and an RBI. Young hit a double and Brown hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Young and Murphy had a stolen base and Wright had two stolen bases. Hawkins committed an error.
Chris Sale pitched eight innings giving up four hits and three runs. Sale walked two and struck out 13, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with two strikeouts. Reed blew the save but picked up his third win of the season.
Alejandro De Aza had two hits and an RBI, Alexei Ramirez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Alex Rios had an RBI. Adam Dunn had a hit and drew two walks, Gillaspie drew a walk and Jeff Keppinger had a hit. Tyler Flowers had a hit and an RBI, Dunn hit a double and Flowers hit a homerun. The White Sox were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. De Aza, Ramirez and Beckham each had a stolen base. Beckham committed an error.
Byrd hit a sacrifice fly and Satin hit an RBI single in the first inning giving the Mets a 2-0 lead. Rios hit an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1. Flowers hit a solo homerun in the third to make it a 2-2 game. Brown hit a solo homerun in the fifth to give the Mets the lead 3-2. De Aza hit an RBI groundout and Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth making it a 4-3 game in favor of the White Sox. Murphy reached on an error and a run scored to tie the game at four in the ninth inning. Ramirez hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give the White Sox the 5-4 victory.
The Mets record dropped to 30-43 and the White Sox record improved to 32-42. The two teams will play game two of two on Wednesday night.
