The New York Mets waste another brilliant effort by Matt Harvey

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets. The game took place on Friday night and at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched great. Josh Satin had three hits and two RBI and David Wright had a couple of hits.

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with 11 strikeouts. David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Josh Edgin gave up a hit and a run and Brandon Lyon gave up a hit and a run with a walk. Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one and Bobby Parnell took his fourth loss of the season. Parnell pitched an inning giving up two hits and a two runs.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wright had two hits. Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI, Satin had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk. Omar Quintanilla drew a walk, Wright hit a double and Satin hit two doubles. Byrd and Lagares hit a double and the Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

Ross Detwiler pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked two and struck out four. Ross Ohlendorf pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Tyler Clippard won his sixth game of the season pitching a scoreless inning and giving up a walk and Drew Storen saved his second game of the season with a perfect inning.

Denard Span had two hits, Rendon drew a walk and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and three RBI. Jayson Wrth had a hit, Ian Desmond had two hits and two RBI and Roger Bernadina had a hit. Kurt Suzuki had an RBI, Span, Zimmerman, Werth and Desmond each hit a double. Span hit a triple and Desmond hit a homerun. The Nationals were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Desmond and Ohlendorf each committed an error.

In the fourth Byrd reached on an error and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Desmond hit a homerun in the fifth to tie the game at one. Byrd hit an RBI double and Satin an RBI single in the fifth giving the Mets a 3-1 lead. Satin hit an RBI double in the seventh to extend the Mets lead to 4-1. In the eighth Zimmerman hit a three run double to tie the game at four. In the ninth Desmond hit an RBI double and Suzuki hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4 Nationals and that would be the final score.

The Mets record fell to 32-44 and the Nationals record improved to 40-39. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.
