The New York Yankees are routed by the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees by the score of 11-1 on Saturday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and was not very good at all. The Yankees offense didn’t get much going at all, David Adams led the offense with a couple of hits.

Hughes pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Hughes record dropped to 2-4 on the season. Preston Claiborne continues to impress, he pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up three hits and striking out two and Adam Warren pitched three innings giving up eight hits and six runs with a walk and three strikeouts.

Kevin Youkilis drew a walk, Robinson Cano had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit. Jayson Nix had a hit and drew a walk, Adams had two hits and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit. Chris Stewart had an RBI and drew a walk; the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Felix Doubront picked up his fourth win of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and a run. He walked three and struck out six. Junichi Tazawa pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Craig Breslow pitched an inning striking out one and Koji Uehara pitched an inning and striking out two.

Daniel Nava had four hits and four RBI, Mike Carp had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Dustin Pedroia had a hit. David Ortiz drew two walks, one of them intentionally, Mike Napoli had three hits and four RBI and Stephen Drew had two hits and an RBI. Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit; Jose Iglesias had two hits and an RBI and Jackie Bradley Jr. had three hits.

Bradley Jr, hit two doubles, Carp and Saltalamacchia each hit a double. Napoli, Nava and Drew each hit a homerun. The Red Sox were 5-15 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

In the third Carp hit an RBI double and Napoli hit a grand slam to make it 5-0 Red Sox in the third inning. In the fourth Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-1 game that would be the Yankees only run of the game. In the eighth Nava hit a three run homerun to make it an 8-1 game. In the ninth the Red Sox added three more runs to make it 11-1 and that was the final score.

The Yankees and Red Sox will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday night. The Yankees record dropped to 31-24 and the Red Sox record improved to 34-23. The Red Sox lead the Yankees by two games in the AL East for first place.
