The New York Mets begin a big sereis with the Miami Marlins with a victory



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 5-3.  Verrett started for the Mets and pitched pretty well as well as the bullpen.  Jose Reyes led the offense with three hits. 

Verrett pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Hansel Robles won his fifth game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and won his fifth game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and he saved his 34th game of the season. 

Adam Conley pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  David Phelps pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Kyle Barraclough pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Fernando Rodney pitched an inning giving up  a hit and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Reyes had three hits and an RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, James Loney had a hit and two RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, Lagares had a hit and drew a walk, Alejandro drew a walk. 

J.T. Realmuto had a hit, Miguel Rojas had two hits and Christian Yelich had two hits and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Marcell Ozuna drew a walk and Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI.  Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit.  Rojas, Realmuto and Yelich each hit a double and Yelich hit a homerun.  The Marlins had Rojas, Realmuto and Yelich each hit a doube.  Yelich hit a homerun and they were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and De Aza was caught stealing.  Reyes committed an error and Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

In the first Cespedes hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Reyes hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  Yelich hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two in the sixth.  In the seventh Cespedes hit a sac fly to make it 3-2 and in the ninth Loney hit a two run homerun to make it 5-2.  Prado hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to 5-3.

The New York Yankees win on a walk off once again over the Texas Rangers



The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  The Yankees won their second straight in walk off fashion.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched great and so did the big three out of the bullpen.  Alex Rodriguez had two hits and Didi Gregorius hit a homerun. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up one run on two hits.  He walked three and struck out 12.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman picked up his second win of th eseason pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

A.J. Griffing pitched five innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Shane Tolleson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out one, Jake Diekman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two walks and Tony Barnette lost his third game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up an unearned run and two walks. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew two walks, Rodriguez had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Gregorius had a hit and an RBI and Aaron Hicks drew two walks.  Carlos Beltran drew a pinch hit walk and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Rodriguez had a stolen base and Hicks was caught stealing. 

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and an RBI, Nomar Mazara had a hit and Adrian Beltre had a hit and drew a walk.  Prince Fielder drew a walk, Jurickson Profar drew a walk and Mitch Moreland had a hit.  Choo hit a homerun and the Rangers were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Chirinos had a passed ball. 

In the first Choo hit a solo homerun to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the ninth a passed ball allowed the Yankees to score the winning run and walk off again for the second straight day.  The final score was 2-1 as the teams split the four game series and the Yankees ended their homestand.  They will head out west to take on the San Diego Padres in a three game series that begins on Friday night.

The New York Mets are swept by the Atlanta Braves as they manage one hit



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field and the final score was 6-0.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok and the offense only managed the one hit. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up two h its and two runs and Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up four hits and a run with four strikeouts. 

Julio Teheran pitched a complete game one hit shutout for the Braves.  He walked none and struck out seven and earned his third win of the season. 

Michael Conforto had a hit and the Mets left one man on base. 

Ender Inciarte had a hit and an RBI, Freddie Freeman had four  hits and an RBI and Nick Markakis had two hits and two RBI.  Tyler Flowers drew a walk, Jace Peterson had a hit and Chase d'Arnaud had a hit.  Erick Aybar had a hit, Teheran had a hit and Freeman hit two doubles and Aybar hit a double.  Markakis hit a homerun and the Braves were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  In the third Inciarte hit an RBI single to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the third Markakis hit an RBI single to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.  Markakis hit a solo homerun in the sixth and it was 3-0 Braves.  A balk scored a run in the seventh and Freeman hit an RBI double to make it 5-0 still in the seventh inning.  In the eighth a wild pitch scored a run to push the lead to 6-0 and that would be the final score of the game.  The Mets were swept in the three game series and will have the day off on Monday.  They will host the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night in a brief two game series.

New York Mets drop both games of a doubleheader



The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates in two games on Tuesday afternoon and night.  The games took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score in both games was 3-1.  Steven Matz and Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and they both pitched well.  The offense only came up with nine hits combined in both games. 

Matz pitched five innings giving up eight hits and two runs with two walks and eight strikeouts and he took his second loss of the season.  Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Logan Verrett pitched two innings giving up a hit and he walked one with two strikeouts. 

deGrom started the other game for the Mets and pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with no walks and nine strikeouts and he took his second loss of the season.  Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout and Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk and Neil Walker had a hit.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, James Loney had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Matz had a hit which was a triple and Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. 

Josh Harrison had three hits, Andrew McCutchen had two hits and an RBI and David Freese had two hits and an RBI.  Jung Ho Kang had two hits and drew a walk, Francisco Cervelli drew a walk and Jordy Mercer had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Niese drew a walk and Freese hit a double, Harrison a triple and Mercer hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Harrison had a stolen base. 

Niese won his sixth game of the season for the Pirates pitching seven innings giving up four hits and no runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Neftali Feliz pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Mark Melancon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

In the first Freese hit an RBI single to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  McCutchen hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 2-0 Pirates and in the sixth Mercer hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the eighth Granderson hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

In the other game Granderson drew a walk, Walker had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Flores drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and an RBI and Alejandro De Aza had a hit.  Conforto and De Aza each hit a double.  The Mets were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Walker committed an error. 

John Jaso had two hits and an RBI, Gregory Polanco had a hit and Jordy Mercer had two hits.  Sean Rodriguez had two hits, Cole Figueroa had an RBI and Chris Stewart had two hits and an RBI.  Nicasio had a hit, Kang drew a walk and Rodriguez and Jaso each hit a double.  The Pirates were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the second Figueroa hit an RBI groundout giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  Stewart hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Plawecki hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  Jaso hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets were swept in the doubleheader and will play game three of three on Wednesday night.   

Yankees win second straight over the Anaheim Angels



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was really good.  Alex Rodriguez, Starlin Castro and Aaron Hicks each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his seventh game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

David Huff lost his first game of the season pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Mike Morin pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Greg Mahle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Cam Bedrosian pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Fernando Salas pitched a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Rob Refsnyder had an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and two RBI.  Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI, Castro had two hits and an RBI and Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Hicks had two hits including a double and Beltran and Castro each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Cole Calhoun had a hit and two RBI, Mike Trout drew a walk and C.J. Cron had a hit.  Johnny Giavotella drew a walk, Rafael Ortega had a hit and Gregorio Petit had two hits and an RBI.  Petit, Ortega and Cron each hit a double and Calhoun hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ortega and Huff each committed an error. 

In the first Beltran hit a two run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Romine hit an RBI single in the first to up the lead to 3-0.  In the second Refsnyder hit a sac fly to increase the lead to 4-0 Yankees.  Castro hit a solo homerun in the third and it was 5-0.  In the fifth Petit hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 5-1.  Calhoun hit a two run homerun and the game was now 5-3.  In the seventh Rodriguez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two games in the series and will play game three of four on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees fall in Arizona as Zack Greinke looks good



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and the final score was 5-3.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he wasn't very good and the bullpen was good.  Starlin Castro had two of the teams six hits. 

Pineda pitched five innings giving up nine hits and five runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Greinke pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Greinke won his fourth game of the season.  Daniel Hudson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Brad Ziegler pitched an inning walking one and striking out one.  Ziegler saved his eighth game of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI, Castro had two hits and an RBI and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Dustin Ackley had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had an RBI, Castro hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Headley and Pineda each committed an error and McCann had a passed ball.  Pineda had a pickoff. 

Jean Segura had two hits, Chris Herrmann had a hit and Paul Goldschmidt had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jake Lamb had a hit and two RBI, Welington Castillo had a hit and an RBI and Chris Owings had a hit.  Nick Ahmed had two hits and an RBI, Owings hit a triple and Lamb hit a homerun.  The Diamondbacks were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Goldschmidt had two stolen bases and Castillo had a stolen base.  Segura was picked off. 

In the second Castro hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Ahmed hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the third Goldschmidt hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Diamondbacks.  Castillo hit an RBI single and it was 3-1 Diamondbacks.  In the fifth Lamb hit a two run homerun to push the lead to 5-1.  In the eighth Beltran hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 5-2.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single and it was 5-3 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have lost the first two games of the series and will look to grab the final game on Wednesday night and avoid the three game sweep.

New York Mets lose to the Philadelphia Phillies and drop the series



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched ok.  David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes each had two hits and that was it for the Mets offense. 

Harvey started for the Mets and pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He took his second loss of the season and for the first time in his career is 0-2.  Jim Henderson pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Logan Verrett pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Jeremy Hellickson started for the Phillies and pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He earned his first win of the season.  James Russell pitched to one batter retiring him, Hector Neris pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and Jeanmar Gomez earned his second save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Wright had two hits, Cespedes had two hits and two RBI and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Wright hit a double and Cespedes hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Freddy Galvis had a hit and an RBI, Cesar Hernandez had two hits and Odubel Herrera had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Maikel Franco had two hits, Ryan Howard had an RBI and drew two walks and Peter Bourjos had a hit and drew a walk.  Hellickson had a hit, Andres Blanco had a hit and an RBI and Blanco hit a double and Herrera hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Hernandez had a stolen base and Ruiz was caught stealing. 

In the third Galvis hit a sacrifice fly to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Herrera hit a two run homerun and the lead was pushed to 3-0.  Cespedes hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the eighth Howard hit a sac fly to make it a 4-2 game and in the ninth Blanco hit an RBI double making it 5-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets lost two out of three in the series to the Phillies.  It was a disappointing start to the home schedule for the Mets.  The Mets will start a three game series on Monday night against the Miami Marlins.

The New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 behind a strong Masahiro Tanaka



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 7-1.  Tanaka started and pitched three scoreless innings, the Yankees bullpen also did a good job as they only allowed two hits and an unearned run.  The offense was led by Didi Gregorius who had three hits and Jacoby Ellsbury who had two hits and two RBI. 

Tanaka pitched three innings giving up one hits and he struck out three.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts, Nick Rumbelow pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Vincente Campos pitched two innings giving up a hit and an unearned run and he struck out two.  Tyler Olson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits and two RBI, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Starlin Castro drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Gregorius had three hits and an RBI, Tyler Wade had a hit and Aaron Judge drew a walk.  Chris Denorfia had a hit and two RBI, Teixeira hit a double and the Yankees were 5-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base and McCann and Slade Heathcott each committed an error. 

In the first McCann hit a two run single giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Ellsbury hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  In the third Gregorius hit an RBI single and Denorfia hit a two run single to up the Yankees lead to 6-0.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single to make it 7-0 in the third and in the seventh the Orioles got on the board with a Christian Walker sac fly to make it 7-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees improved their spring record to 3-6-2 and the Orioles fell to 0-10.  The Yankees will head to Port Charlotte on Saturday afternoon to take on the Tampa Bay Rays.

New York Yankees are shutout as their pitching shined for the first time



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Friday afternoon in Lakeland, Florida.  Bryan Mitchell started for the Yankees and pitched well.  James Kaprielian and Luis Cessa also impressed in their two scoreless innings each.  Didi Gregorious had a hit and a walk and was robbed of another hit.  Brian McCann and Dustin Ackley each had a hit. 

Mitchell pitched two scoreless innings giving up a walk and striking out two.  Vinnie Pestano pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Kaprielian pitched two perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Cessa pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Gregorius had a hit and drew a walk, McCann had a hit and Ackley had a hit.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Cesar Puello had a hit and Lane Adams had a hit.  Gregorius hit a double and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the third inning Miguel Cabrera hit a three run homerun and that accounted for all the scoring in the game.  The Yankees are 1-2 now in the grapefruit league and will play Saturday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field against the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Mets shutout the San Diego Padres



The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Noah Syndergaard started and pitched great for the Mets and Curtis Granderson led the offense with a couple of hits and RBI. 

Syndergaard pitched eight innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and nine strikeouts.  Syndergaard picked up his fifth win of the season.  Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

James Shields lost his fourth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up seven hits and three runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Granderson had two hits and two RBI, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Lucas Duda had a hit and two RBI, Juan Uribe had a hit and Kevin Plawecki had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a pinch hit, Tejada and Lagares each hit a double and Duda and Granderson each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Tejada committed an error. 

Will Venable had a hit, Yangervis Solarte had a hit and Yonder Alonso had a hit.  Abraham Almonte had a hit which was a double.  The Padres were 0-5 with runners in scoring positiona dn left three men on base.  Alonso committed an error. 

In the first Duda hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the eighth Granderson hit a two run homerun to make it 4-0 and that was the final score.  The Mets and Padres will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

The AL defeats the NL in All Star Game



The American League defeated the National League in the MLB All Star Game on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinatti, Ohio and the final score was 6-3 AL.  Pete Rose was a story as he was an analyst for Fox for the game but also got to be on the field and mostly cheered as part of the Franchise Four promotion.  The guys that stood out pitching wise were Dellin Betances from the Yankees pitching for the AL and Aroldis Chapman from the hometown Reds and pitching for the NL.  Jacob deGrom also dominated from the Mets striking out the side and only throwing ten pitches.  Felix Hernandez and David Price each pitched perfect innings for the AL and Price had two strikeouts and Hernandez had a strikeout.  Chris Archer and Glen Perkins gave up the earned runs.  Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw, Francisco Rodriguez and Mark Melancon gave up the earned runs for the NL. 

Andrew McCutchen had a hit and an RBI for the NL.  Jhonny Peralta had a hit and an RBI, the NL only managed six hits.  Ryan Braun hit a triple, McCutchen hit a homerun and the NL was 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.   

Mike Trout led off the game with a homerun and he was named the MVP for the second straight year.  He is the first player in the history of MLB to ever win back-to-back All Star MVP.  Josh Donaldson had a couple of walks, Manny Machado had a hit and an RBI and Prince Fielder had a hit and two RBI.  Lorenzo Cain had two hits and an RBI, Brian Dozier had a hit and an RBI.  Cain and Machado each hit a double and Trout and Dozier each hit a homerun.  The AL was 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cain and Holt each had a stolen base and Donaldson and Britton each committed an error. 

In the first Trout hit a solo homerun to lead off the game and give the AL a quick 1-0 lead.  In the second Peralta tied the game at one with an RBI single.  In the fifth Fielder hit an RBI single to give the AL a 2-1 lead.  Cain hit an RBI double and it was 3-1 AL.  In the sixth McCutchen hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2 AL.  Machado hit an RBI double in the seventh and it was 4-2 AL.  Fielder hit a sac fly to make it 5-2 in the seventh and in the eighth Dozier hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-2 game.  In the ninth Crawford hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 6-3 but that would be the final score.  MLB will take two more days off before resuming play and the nominal second half on Friday.  The AL will have home field advantage in the World Series as a result of the All Star victory.

New York Mets end the 11 game win streak of the Toronto Blue Jays in extra innings



The New York Mets defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, new York and the final score was 4-3 in 11 innings.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched great.  The bullpen blew the lead to send it to extra innings.  Lucas Duda had two hits. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and 11 strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning with a strikeout, Jack Leathersich pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Familia also blew his second save of the season.  Hansel Robles picked up his first win of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and a run with a walk. 

Mark Buehrle pitched seven innings giving up four hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five.  Steve Delabar pitched a pefect inning with a strikeout, Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aaron Loup pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Brett Cecil blew his second save and also lost his third game of the season.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hti and two runs with a walk and Liam Hendriks gave up a hit to the only batter that he faced. 

 

Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, Ruben Tejada had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Duda had two hits and an RBI.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, Dilson Herrera had a hit, Kevin Plawecki drew a walk and Duda, Lagares and Tejada each hit a double.  The Mets werre 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Jose Bautista had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and drew a walk and Carrera drew a walk.  Chris Colabello had two hits, Dioner Navarro had an RBI and drew a walk and Justin Smoak drew a walk.  Encarnacion hit a double, Bautista hit two homeruns and the Blue Jays were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes committed an error. 

In the first Bautista hit a solo homerun to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Lagares hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Teajada hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the ninth Bautista hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two and in the eleventh Navarro hit a sac fly to give the Jays a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the eleventh Duda hit an RBI single to tie the game at three and Flores hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 4-3 walk-off win.

The New York Yankees take the series from the Baltimore Orioles behind a dominant Michael Pineda



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Michael Pineda started and dominated.  Carlos Beltran and Didi Gregorius each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run, he walked none and struck out sixteen batters.  He also won his fifth game of the season, Esmil Rogers pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Dellin Betances pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two strikeouts. 

Bud Norris pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Norris lost his fourth game of the season.  Brian Matusz pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jason Garcia pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with four walks and two strikeouts.   

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and two RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a hit and drew two walks and Gregorius had two hits and two RBI.  Ellsbury and Gregorius each hit a double, Beltran and McCann each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and was also caught stealing. 

Manny Machado had a hit, Jimmy Paredes had two hits and Adam Jones had two hits and an RBI.  Delmon Young had a hit, J.J. Hardy had two hits and an RBI and Jones, Young and Paredes each hit a double.  Hardy hit a homerun and the Orioles were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Jones had an outfield assist. 

Hardy hit a solo homerun in the second inning to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Beltran hit a solo homerun, Gregorius hit an RBI single and Ellsbury hit a two run double to give them a 4-1 lead.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Gregorius hit an RBI double and then Jones hit an RBI single in the eighth to complete the scoring. 

The Yankees will begin a nine game, ten day road trip on Monday in Tampa Bay.

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Chase Whitley started and just didn't have it.  Jose Pirela had two hits to lead the offense. 

Whitley pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs iwth two walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season, David Carpenter pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Chen picked up his first win of the season.  Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with two strikeouts, Darren O'Day pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Zach Britton saved his sixth game of the season retiring both batters that he faced. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI.  Pirela had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Stephen Drew had a hit.  John Ryan Murphy had an RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and Young and Drew each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

Paredes hit a solo homerun in the third giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Davis hit a solo homerun in the fourth to increase the lead to 2-0.  De Aza hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Orioles.  Young hit an RBI single in the fifth and the Orioles extended their lead to 5-0.  Murphy hit a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1.  Young hit an RBI double in the seventh and Beltran hit an RBI single in the eighth to complete the scoring at 6-2.   The two teams will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets win their opener as usual in Washington



The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Monday evening.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 3-1.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched well and the bullpen was good also.  Lucas Duda led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Colon pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Colon earned his first win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning retiring the only batter that he faced.  Buddy Carlyle earned his first save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and retiring both batters that he faced. 

Max Scherzer pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up four htis and three runs with none of them earned.  He walked two and struck out eight and took his first loss of the season.  Xavier Cedeno retired the only batter that he faced, Aaron Barrett pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Matt Thornton pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Curtis Granderson drew two walks, Duda had two hits and two RBI and Michael Cuddyer had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had two hits and an RBI, John Mayberry Jr. drew a walk and d'Arnaud hit a triple.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Daniel Murphy committed an error. 

Michael Taylor had a hit, Bryce Harper had two hits and an RBI and Ryan Zimmerman drew a walk.  Harper hit a homerun and the Nationals were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Desmond committed two errors. 

In the fourth Harper hit a solo homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Duda hit a two run single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh d'Arnaud hit an RBI triple to make it 3-1 Mets and that was the final score.  The Mets and Nationals will have the day off on Tuesday and then resume their series on Wednesday night.  Jacob deGrom will face Jordan Zimmerman.

The New York Mets fall to the San Francisco Giants


The San Francisco Giants defeated the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The final score was 8-5 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Zach Wheeler was just ok in probably his second to last start of the season. The bullpen was good and bad and Daniel Murphy and Josh Satin led the offense.

Wheeler pitched five innings giving up three hits and four runs with six walks and three strikeouts. Sean Henn lost his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Scott Atchison pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Gonzalez Germen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. Tim Byrdak pitched to one batter and retired him; Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout. David Aardsma pitched to two batters and struck them both out.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Murphy had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Lucas Duda drew two walks. Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, Mike Baxter drew a walk and Matthew den Dekker had a hit and an RBI. Anthony Recker had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk and Satin had two hits. Tejada, Flores and Murphy each hit a double and the Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Young had a stolen base and Lagares committed an error.

Yusmeiro Petit pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out one and won his fourth game of the season. Jean Machi pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Javier Lopez faced one batter and retired him and Santiago Casilla pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two. Sandy Rosario pitched giving up a walk and a run without recording an out and Sergio Romo pitched an inning giving up two hits.

Angel Pagan had three hits, three RBI and drew two walks, Gregor Blanco had a hit and an RBI and Brandon Belt had two hits. Buster Posey had an RBI and drew a walk, Hunter Pence had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Pablo Sandoval drew two walks. Brandon Crawford had a hit and drew two walks, Tony Abreu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Petit had an RBI and drew a walk. Abreu hit a double, Pagan hit a triple and a homerun and the Giants were 5-16 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Peguero had a stolen base, Posey and Crawford committed an error each and Pagan had an outfield assist.

Petit had an RBI walk, Pagan an RBI single and Blanco an RBI groundout in the second inning to give the Giants a 3-0 lead. Young hit an RBI groundout in the third to make it 3-1 Giants. In the fourth Flores hit an RBI double and den Dekker hit a two run single to make it a 4-3 Mets lead. Posey hit an RBI groundout in the fifth to tie the game at four and in the seventh Pagan hit a solo homerun giving the Giants a 5-4 lead. Abreu hit an RBI double and Pagan an RBI triple in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-4 Giants and Pence hit an RBI single in the ninth making it 8-4. Murphy hit an RBI single in the ninth to make it 8-5 and that was the final score.

The Mets record dropped to 67-83 and the Giants record improved to 70-81. The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets shutout the Colorado Rockies behind Matt Harvey


The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night. The final score was 5-0 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Matt Harvey started and pitched his first complete game and first shutout. Wilmer Flores led the offense with two hits and three RBI.

Harvey pitched nine innings giving up four hits and no runs with any walks and six strikeouts. Harvey won his ninth game of the season.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit. Marlon Byrd had a hit, Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Flores had two hits and three RBI. John Buck had two hits and an RBI, Omar Quintanilla had a hit and an RBI and Davis, Byrd and Flores each hit a double. The Mets were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

Jhoulys Chacin lost his sixth game of the season. He pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Manny Corpas pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks.

Charlie Blackmon had a hit, Michael Cuddyer had a hit and Wilin Rosario had a hit. Nolan Arenado had a hit; the Rockies were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

Quintanilla hit an RBI single in the second to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Buck hit an RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 2-0 Mets. Flores hit a three run double in the eighth to make it 5-0 Mets and that would be the final score.

The Mets record improved to 51-60 and the Rockies record fell to 52-63. The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees lose a tough one in Baltimore

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees on Friday night. The final score was 4-3 and the game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. CC Sabathia made the start and was cruising and then had a bad sixth inning. He didn’t pitch a bad game, his defense didn’t help him either. Robinson Cano had three hits to lead the offense.

Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up five hits and four runs with six strikeouts. Sabathia took his sixth loss of the season and Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Brett Gardner had two hits, Jayson Nix had a hit and Cano had three hits and an RBI. Vernon Wells had a hit and an RBI, Zoilo Almonte had a hit and Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI. David Adams had a hit and drew a walk, Lyle Overbay had a hit and Gardner hit a double. The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Almonte had a stolen base and Gonzalez committed an error.

T.J. McFarland pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts. Kevin Gausman picked up the win, his first of the season. Gausman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out four and Tommy Hunter picked up his second save of the season. He pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out three.

Manny Machado had a hit and two RBI, Adam Jones had a hit and an RBI and Nate McLouth had two hits and an RBI. Alexia Casilla had a hit, Machado hit a double and McClouth hit a homerun. The Orioles were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.

Cano hit an RBI single in the first to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the third Wells hit an RBI single and Stewart hit an RBI single to make it 3-0 Yankees. Machado hit a two run double and Jones hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at three. In the seventh McClouth hit a solo homerun to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees have now lost three games in a row and are falling further behind in the AL East. The Yankees record dropped to 42-37 and the Orioles record improved to 45-36. The two teams will play game two of the three gam

The New York Yankees lose to Texas to even the series

The Texas Rangers defeated the New York Yankees on Wednesday night. The final score was 8-5 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Andy Pettitte started and wasn’t great, the defense and bullpen were shaky. Brett Gardner had a couple of hits and Ichiro Suzuki had three.

Pettitte pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned. He walked two and struck out six, Joba Chamberlain pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs, Preston Claiborne retired the only batter that he faced and Boone Logan struck out the two batters that he faced. Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two unearned runs.

Gardner had two hits, Suzuki had three hits and two RBI and Robinson Cano had a hit and an RBI. Travis Hafner had a hit and an RBI, Lyle Overbay had a hit and an RBI and Zoilo Almonte drew a walk. Chris Stewart had a hit, Vernon Wells had a hit and Stewart and Suzuki each hit a double. Overbay and Suzuki each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Suzuki had a stolen base and Nix committed an error.

Justin Grimm earned his seventh win of the season. He pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with four strikeouts. Robbie Ross pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Neal Cotts pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and striking out another and Tanner Scheppers pitched an inning and struck out one. Joe Nathan earned his 26th save of the season with a 1-2-3 inning.

Ian Kinsler had two hits and drew a walk, Elvis Andrus had two hits and Nelson Cruz had a hit and two RBI. Adrian Beltre had three hits and two RBI, A.J. Pierzynski had a hit and two RBI and Lance Berkman had two hits and an RBI. Mitch Moreland had a hit and an RBI, David Murphy drew a walk and Leonys Martin had a hit. Beltre hit two doubles, Pierzynski and Kinsler each hit a double and Cruz hit a homerun. The Rangers were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Martin had a stolen base and Beltre was caught stealing.

In the second Overbay hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Beltre hit a two run double and Pierzynski hit a two run double in the third inning. In the sixth Cano hit an RBI single and Hafner hit an RBI single to make it a 4-3 game. Cruz hit a two run homerun in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-3. Suzuki hit a two run homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-5. In the ninth Berkman hit an RBI single and Moreland hit a sacrifice fly to make it an 8-5 game.

The Yankees record dropped to 42-35 and the Rangers record improved to 45-33. The two teams have split the first two games and will play the rubber game on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees are routed by the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees by the score of 11-1 on Saturday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and was not very good at all. The Yankees offense didn’t get much going at all, David Adams led the offense with a couple of hits.

Hughes pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Hughes record dropped to 2-4 on the season. Preston Claiborne continues to impress, he pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up three hits and striking out two and Adam Warren pitched three innings giving up eight hits and six runs with a walk and three strikeouts.

Kevin Youkilis drew a walk, Robinson Cano had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit. Jayson Nix had a hit and drew a walk, Adams had two hits and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit. Chris Stewart had an RBI and drew a walk; the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Felix Doubront picked up his fourth win of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and a run. He walked three and struck out six. Junichi Tazawa pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Craig Breslow pitched an inning striking out one and Koji Uehara pitched an inning and striking out two.

Daniel Nava had four hits and four RBI, Mike Carp had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Dustin Pedroia had a hit. David Ortiz drew two walks, one of them intentionally, Mike Napoli had three hits and four RBI and Stephen Drew had two hits and an RBI. Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit; Jose Iglesias had two hits and an RBI and Jackie Bradley Jr. had three hits.

Bradley Jr, hit two doubles, Carp and Saltalamacchia each hit a double. Napoli, Nava and Drew each hit a homerun. The Red Sox were 5-15 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

In the third Carp hit an RBI double and Napoli hit a grand slam to make it 5-0 Red Sox in the third inning. In the fourth Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-1 game that would be the Yankees only run of the game. In the eighth Nava hit a three run homerun to make it an 8-1 game. In the ninth the Red Sox added three more runs to make it 11-1 and that was the final score.

The Yankees and Red Sox will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday night. The Yankees record dropped to 31-24 and the Red Sox record improved to 34-23. The Red Sox lead the Yankees by two games in the AL East for first place.
