The New York Yankees salvage final game of series with Toronto by shutting them out

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched great, the offense was led by Alex Rodriguez and Dustin Ackley who each had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his 12th game of the season, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, James Pazos pitched to one batter and retired him and Caleb Cotham pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

R.A. Dickey pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his 11th game of the season and Ryan Tepera pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Carlos Beltran had a hit, Brian McCann drew a walk and Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Ackley had two hits and three RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Gregorius and Rodriguez each hit a double.  Ackley hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Tanaka had a pickoff. 

Jose Bautista had a hit, Chris Colabello had a hit and Kevin Pillar had a hit.  Josh Thole had a hit, Bautista, Pillar and Colabello each hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the second Ackley hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead and Gregorius hit a sac fly to make it 2-0.  In the fourth Ackley hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Yankees.  In the eighth Rodriguez hit an RBI double to make it 5-0 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees were able to salvage the final game and avoid a four game sweep.  They will head to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays in a three game series beginning on Monday night. 

New York Yankees drop a thriller to the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1 Blue Jays.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and pitched very well and the offense didn't do much. 

Eovaldi pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Justin Wilson pitched to one batter and struck him out, Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit adn a walk with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Branden Pinder pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and he took his first loss of the season. 

R.A. Dickey pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Brett Cecil pitched an inning giving up a hit and won his third game of the season and Roberto Osuna saved his ninth game of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner had two hits, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Didi Gregorius had two hits and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Teixeira committed an error. 

Troy Tulowitzki drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had a hit,  an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Bautista had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Edward Encarnacion had a hit, Russell Martin had a hit and Chris Colabello had a hit.  Kevin Pillar had a hit, Ben Revere had a hit and Encarnacion hti a double.  Donaldson and Bautista each hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Bautista had a stolen base. 

In the first Donaldson hit a solo homerun giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the second Teixeira hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the tenth inning Bautista hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees blow a late lead and lose to the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  The final score was 3-1 and Chase Whitley started for the Yankees and pitched great.  The Yankees bullpen which has been so great gave up the lead in the 8th.  The Yankees offense only managed three hits as they couldn't touch R.A. Dickey. 

Whitley pitched seven innings giving up six hits and no runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.  Chris Martin suffered the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with no walks or strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout. 

Dickey won his first game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up one run on three hits.  He walked three and struck out none.  Brett Cecil saved his second game of the season pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the game. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner drew two walks and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Garrett Jones had an RBI and Ellsbury and Beltran each hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.   Whitley and Headley each committed an error. 

Devon Travis had a hit, Josh Donaldson had two hits and Jose Bautista had a hit.  Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and an RBI, Kevin Pillar had a hit and Josh Thole had a hit.  Russell Martin had a hit and an RBI, Ryan Goins had a hit and Carrera had a hit.  Donaldson and Encarnacion each hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Pillar and Martin each had a stolen base. 

In the seventh the Yankees took a 1-0 lead.  Jones had an RBI groundout.  In the eighth the Blue Jays took a 3-1 lead and that would be the final score.  Encarnacion hit an RBI double to tie the game and Martin hit an RBI single and another run scored on a throwing error. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The Yankees came into the game in first place and having won 13 of their last 16 games and the Blue Jays in last place but this is the third time in four games the Blue Jays have beaten the Yankees this season.

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Shane Greene started and pitched great, Shawn Kelley gave up the lead and the Yankees walked off with a win in the ninth. 

Greene pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up no runs on three hits.  He walked two and struck out six.  Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning, Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and David Robertson picked up his third win of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

R.A. Dickey pitched  six innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out three.  Brett Cecil pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, Brandon Morrow pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aaron Sanchez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run and he took his second loss of the season. 

Derek Jeter had two hits and an RBI, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Chris Young had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Stephen Drew had two hits and an RBI and Francisco Cervelli had a hit.  Drew hit a double and Jeter hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Richardson had a stolen base and Jeter was caught stealing. 

Jose Reyes had two hits, Jose Bautista had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Edward Encarnacion drew a walk.  Munenori Kawasaki had a hit, Josh Thole had a hit and Bautista hit a homerun.  The Jays were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Lind committed an error. 

In the fifth Drew hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Jeter hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 Yankees.  Bautista hit a two run homerun to tie the game in the eighth.  In the ninth Headley walked off with a fielding error on the first baseman which scored the winning run.  The Yankees won 3-2 and now have won two straight games.  The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night. 

New York Yankees are shutout in Toronto but Michael Pineda has a strong debut

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game

took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 4-0 Blue Jays.  Michael

Pineda made his season debut and Yankees debut and was great.  David Phelps struggled in relief. 

The Yankees offense had plenty of chances but couldn't cash in. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up five hits and a run.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out five, he was a hard luck loser.  Vidal Nuno walked the only batter that he faced and Phelps pitched two innings giving up three hits and three runs.  He had three strikeouts. 

R.A. Dickey started for the Blue Jays and picked up the win.  He pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Aaron Loup pitched to one batter and retired him, Brett Cecil pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Sergio Santos picked up his second save pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Melky Cabrera had two hits and an RBI, Colby Rasmus had a hit and Jose Bautista had a hit and two RBI.  Adam Lind had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Thole had a hit and an RBI and Robert Goins had a hit.  Jonathan Diaz had a hit, Lind, Goins, Diaz and Rasmus each hit a double and Cabrera and Bautista each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four  men on base.  Thole was caught stealing  and Rasmus had an outfield assist. 

In the second inning Thole hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  That score would hold until the eighth inning.  In the eighth the Jays would score three insurance runs to take a 4-0 lead and that would be the final score.  Cabrera hit a solo homerun and Bautista hit a two run homerun.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon.  CC Sabathia will make the start for the Yankees looking to bounce back from his poor first start.  The Yankees will then head home for their home opener on Monday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles.  They will be looking to even their record at 3-3 on Sunday.

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. The final score was 2-0 and the game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Andy Pettitte started and was very good. The Yankees offense had chances in the first and second and then did nothing at all.

Pettitte pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts. Pettitte lost his 10th game of the season. Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up two hits.

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Robinson Cano had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit. Lyle Overbay had a hit and drew a walk, Mark Reynolds had a hit and Chris Stewart drew a walk. Soriano hit a double and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Soriano had an outfield assist.

R.A. Dickey won his 13th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out eight. Sergio Santos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Casey Janssen saved his 31st game of the season. He pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side.

The Jays were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Goins committed an error.

Rasmus hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Jays a 1-0 lead. In the seventh Davis hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 and that would be the final score. In the first inning the Yankees left the bases loaded and then first and second in the second inning. The Yankees never even came close to scoring after that.

The Yankees record fell to 79-72 and the Jays record improved to 69-81. The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees on Monday night. The final score was 5-2 and the game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Phil Hughes started and wasn’t great but he also wasn’t helped by his defense. Brett Gardner led the offense with a couple of hits.

Hughes pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with three of them being earned. Hughes walked three and struck out three and took his 13th loss of the season. David Huff pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out five.

Gardner had two hits, Derek Jeter drew a walk and Robinson Cano had an RBI. Alfonso Soriano had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI. Lyle Overbay drew a walk, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Austin Romine had a hit and drew a walk. Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Soriano and Granderson each had a stolen base and Suzuki committed an error.

In the first Cano had an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Pillar hit an RBI single in the second to tie the game at one. In the third Encarnacion hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 2-1 lead. Rodriguez hit a solo homerun in the fifth to tie the game at two. In the bottom of the fifth the Jays won the game. Encarnacion hit a sacrifice fly and Suzuki made an error to allow the inning to become a big one. Lind hit an RBI double and Sierra hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-2 Jays lead and that was the final score.

The Yankees record fell to 69-62 and the Jays record improved to 59-73. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees complete the four game sweep over the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and pitched well, their bullpen was great. Lyle Overbay and Brennan Boesch each hit a homerun. 
Hughes pitched six innings giving up two runs on seven hits. He walked one intentionally and struck out nine batters. Boone Logan picked up his first win pitching an inning and giving up a hit with two strikeouts, David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Mariano Rivera earned his ninth save of the season with a perfect inning striking out one. Rivera has never had nine saves in the month of April before in his career.

Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk, Robinson Cano drew a walk and Travis Hafner had a hit. Boesch had a hit and an RBI, Overbay had two hits and two RBI and Eduardo Nunez drew a walk. Boesch and Overbay each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

R.A. Dickey was the hard luck loser pitching seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts. Dickey took his fourth loss of the season, Steve Delabar pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and Brett Cecil pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out the only batter that he faced.

Brett Lawrie had a hit, Colby Rasmus had a hit and Jose Bautista had a hit. Edward Encarnacion had a hit, Melky Cabrera had a hit and Adam Lind had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Maizur Izturis had a hit and an RBI, Kawasaki had a hit and Bautista and Izturis each hit doubles. The Blue Jays were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Bautista had a stolen base.

In the second inning Boesch hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Toronto tied the game at one. Lind hit an RBI single and in the sixth Toronto took the lead on an Izturis RBI double. In the bottom of the seventh Overbay hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees the 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees swept the four game series and are now 15-9 on the season. The Blue Jays record dropped to 9-17 in a season that started with so much promise and big expectations. The Yankees will remain home and begin a three game series with the new American League Houston Astros on Monday night.

R.A. Dickey is traded to the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Mets traded the ace of their staff and 2012 Cy young award winner. It seems like that wouldn’t be a good idea. I think the Mets actually did the right thing though and made out well for themselves. They got two of the Blue Jays top three prospects and they traded a 38 year old knuckle ball pitcher who is coming off of his best season. He was good in New York but never close to as good as he was last season. It is hard seeing him duplicate that performance and his value will never be higher. 
The Mets are a team that has been bad for a while, they are stocking up their farm system now and hoping that within the next couple of years they will make an impact and lead them back to the postseason and beyond. The Mets have the makings of some very good and talented players. They have a good young pitching staff and Dickey if not part of the long term future would just be blocking one of the youngsters. The Mets need some outfield help and need as much money as possible to concentrate on that. They are set in the infield and pitching staff, they could maybe use some bullpen help also but that may come from within as well.

The Mets got top catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud, major league catcher John Buck, pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard and minor leaguer Wuilmer Becerra. Here is what Mets GM Sandy Alderson had to say. “It was an extraordinary privilege for us to be part of his career over the past three years.” “The final chapter has not been written, but it has been an extraordinary career, arcing from disappointment to jubilation.”

The Mets also sent catchers Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas to the Blue Jays. The Mets catching situation was not good at all and although d’Arnaud has had injury problems he is considered the top catching prospect in all of baseball and the Mets are willing to bet he will make the team before long and be their catcher for a long time. Dickey came out on twitter and wrote a nice message to the Mets fans.

If you are wondering Dickey is the seventh Cy Young Award winner to open the following season with a new team and fourth to be traded.

R.A. dickey is an angry Elf

The Mets had their annual holiday party, one of them dresses as Santa and they have a couple of elves. David Wright was there as Santa and R.A. Dickey and Ike Davis were elves. Dickey seemed to speak out about the Mets and their lack of effort with getting a deal done with him. I personally didn’t think it was horrible but it didn’t look good what he said. I am not sure that a event with children was the right place to air out your grievances. I do understand why he is upset though, he is only looking for a two year deal with fair market value. Dickey did win a Cy Young award last season. 
I think they may keep him but just have him on the final year of his deal. I think the Mets could trade him but want a really good deal for him and if not I don’t see them giving him two years. They probably should just give him a two year extension and leave it at that. Johan Santana is in his last year and the rest of the staff is young. It is good to have a veteran presence around but we will see how it plays out.

The other big story which is more up to date is Josh Hamilton agreeing to a deal with the Anaheim Angels on Thursday afternoon. He signed for five years and 125 million dollars. What a lineup they have with Pujols and Hamilton in the middle and they also have Mike Trout. The rivalry between the Angels and Rangers has also really picked up steam with this. The Angels and Dodgers though in different leagues have a little territorial rivalry going like the Mets and Yankees. It will be interesting to see how Hamilton performs outside his comfort zone. He won’t be expected to be the guy in Anaheim as Pujols and Trout are also there. A city like Los Angeles though can be very tempting and they better have someone watching his every move to make sure he doesn’t fall off the wagon.

MLB Winter Meetings Day One

The Winter Meetings have begun and the Yankees are in the news but not for good reasons. Alex Rodriguez will need surgery on his left hip and be out about half of the season. What does this mean for the Yankees?? Will they make a trade for a third baseman, could they sign a third baseman or will they go with what they have. Brian Cashman the general manager has already said Eduardo Nunez is being strictly seen as a shortstop. Eric Chavez is still out there but can he play everyday for half a season?? Chase Headley is a name that has been mentioned but the Padres told writer Joel Sherman they won’t be trading him. Kevin Youkilis is a free agent although I can’t see him landing with the Yankees. There are a couple of other free agents also like Placido Polanco, we will have to wait and see what the Yankees do but they are being patient. I think it is the right thing to not make a panic move and see how it plays out.

The Yankees may be looking for a catcher although that doesn’t seem as much of a priority as right field. It doesn’t look like the Yankees will make any big moves or sign any big names but you never know with them. I still feel that Ichiro Suzuki will end up back with them and be their right fielder but there hasn’t seemed to be any conversations between the two sides.

Jacob Ruppert an old owner of the Yankees has been posthumously been elected to the baseball Hall Of Fame. A lot of people assumed he was already in for all that he did. He presided over the Yankees first six world championships and brought Babe Ruth to the Yankees.

Tuesday is another day and we will see what that brings. The Red Sox did sign Mike Napoli today to a three year deal. He will play first base for them, Angel Pagan resigned with the San Francisco Giants, four years and 40 million. It looks like R.A. Dickey is a name that is getting a ton of attention, the Mets may move him and a lot of teams are interested but the Mets want a good package for the 2012 NL Cy Young award winner.

The Mets win to take series and get R.A. Dickey his 20th victory

The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 6-5 on Thursday afternoon. The game was played at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. It was the last home game of the season for the Mets. R.A. Dickey started and he started off shaky but then he was good. David Wright led the Mets offense. Kevin Correia started for the Pirates and he wasn’t very good, their bullpen was good and Rod Barajas led the Pirates offense. 
Dickey pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two walks and 13 strikeouts. Dickey is now 20-6 on the season and has one more start to state his case for Cy Young. Jon Rauch pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Bobby Parnell saved his fifth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning. Correia pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Correia lost his 11^th game of the season, Hisanori Takahashi pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings striking out two and Chris Resop pitched an inning giving up a hit. Tony Watson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Ruben Tejada had a hit, Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI and Wright had two hits and three RBI. Ike Davis had a hit and an RBI, Scott Hairston had a hit and an RBI and Andres Torres drew a walk. Dickey had a hit, Davis and Wright each hit a homerun. The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Murphy had a stolen base.

Alex Presley had a hit and two RBI, Garrett Jones had two hits and drew a walk and Travis Snider had a hit and drew a walk. Barajas had two hits and two RBI, Jody Mercer had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Brock Holt had a hit. Jones and Barajas each hit a double and Barajas and Presley each hit a homerun. The Pirates were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Andruw McCutchen had an outfield assist.

In the second Barajas hit an RBI double and Mercer hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Pirates. Davis hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second to make it 2-1. Barajas hit a solo homerun in the fourth to make it a 3-1 game. Hairston hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth making it 3-2. In the fifth Murphy hit an RBI single and Wright hit a three run homerun to make it 6-3 Mets. Presley hit a two run homerun in the ninth to make it 6-5 and that was the final score.

The Mets won three out of the four games in this series. The Mets record improved to 72-84 and the Pirates record dropped to 76-80. This was the Mets last home game of the season. They at least finished on a strong note winning seven of their last eight at home. The Mets will now head to Atlanta and Miami to close out the season with six more games. This was an exciting game for them as they got Dickey his 20^th win and he is the first knuckleball pitcher since Phil Niekro who did it more then 20 years ago.

The New York Mets earn R.A. Dickey his 19th win in victory over the Miami Marlins

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen held on. Josh Thole led the Mets offense with a couple of hits. Donovan Solano led the Marlins offense and Mark Buehrle started for the Marlins and was just ok, their bullpen was good. 
Dickey picked up his 19^th win pitching eight innings giving up six hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out four. Rauch saved his fourth game of the season pitching one inning and giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. Buehrle pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs with three walks and three strikeouts. He earned his 13^th loss of the season, Tom Koehler pitched an inning giving up a hit and A.J. Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Ruben Tejada had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Scott Hairston had a hit and an RBI. Lucas Duda drew two walks, Ike Davis drew a walk and Jason Bay had a hit and two RBI. Andres Torres had a hit, Thole had two hits and drew a walk and Thole and Torres each hit a double. Bay and Hairston each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-6 and left eight men on base. Duda committed an error.

Bryan Petersen drew a walk, Gorkys Hernandez had a hit and Greg Dobbs drew a walk. Solano had three hits, John Buck had a hit and three RBI. Velasquez had two hits and Brantly had a hit. Solano hit a double and Buck hit a homerun. The Marlins were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Petersen had a stolen base. Solano committed an error.

Bay hit a two run homerun in the second inning to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. Hairston hit a solo homerun in the fourth, Murphy reached on a fielders choice in the fifth to score another run. It was 4-0 Mets. Buck hit a three run homerun in the ninth to make it 4-3 and that was the final score.

The Mets won the first two of the series and will try and sweep on Sunday afternoon. The Mets record improved to 68-83 and the Marlins record fell to 66-86.

The New York Mets fail to get Dickey to his 19th win in loss to the Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 3-1 on Monday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched pretty well. The bullpen was good and Daniel Murphy produced the Mets offense. Cliff Lee started for the Phillies and was really good and Jonathan Papelbon closed it out. The Phillies offense was led by Chase Utley and Dominick Brown. 
Dickey lost his sixth game of the season pitching seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked two and struck out eight. Robert Carson pitched pitched an inning giving up a hit, Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Ramon Ramirez retired the only batter that he faced. Lee won his sixth game of the season pitching eight innings. He gave up seven hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts. Papelbon saved his 35^th game of the season pitching a perfect inning and striking out one.

Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Murphy had a hit and an RBI and David Wright had a hit. Lucas Duda had a hit, Andres Torres had a hit and Mike Nickeas had a hit. Kelly Shoppach had a hit, Duda hit a double and the Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Dickey committed an error and Nickeas had a passed ball.

Jimmy Rollins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Utley had two hits and an RBI and Carlos Ruiz had a hit. Domonic Brown had two hits and an RBI, Frandsen drew a walk and Brown hit a triple and hit a homerun. Rollins hit a homerun. The Phillies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

Utley hit a sacrifice fly in the first to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. In the fifth the Phillies took a 2-0 lead on a Rollins solo homerun. The play was reviewed and overturned after it was initially ruled not a homerun. The Mets came back with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Murphy hit an RBI single, Brown hit a solo homerun in the seventh to make it 3-1 and that was the final score.

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night weather permitting. The Mets record fell to 66-81 and the Phillies record improved to 74-74. The Phillies remain in the hunt for the second wild card while the Mets are playing out the string.

The Mets lose and Dickey fails to win his 19th game

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals by the score of 5-3 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched ok but not great. The Mets bullpen other then Frank Francisco pitched well and their offense was led by Ruben Tejada. Bryce Harper led the Nationals offense and Jordan Zimmerman started for them and pitched pretty well, their bullpen was good. 
Dickey lost his fifth game of the season pitching seven innings giving up eight hits and three runs with three walks and two strikeouts. Jon Rauch pitched an inning giving up two hits, Francisco didn’t record an out and gave up three hits and two runs with a walk and Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. Manny Acosta struck out the only batter that he faced. Zimmerman pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Tom Gorzelanny pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout to earn his fourth win of the season, Garcia pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Mike Gonzalez struck out the only batter that he faced. Drew Storen pitched to one batter and retired him and Tyler Clippard saved his 31^st game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts.

Tejada had three hits, Daniel Murphy had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and David Wright had a hit and an RBI. Ike Davis drew two walks, Scott Hairston had a hit and an RBI and Josh Thole had a hit. Ronny Cedeno had a hit, Murphy hit a double and Hairston hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base.

Jayson Werth had two hits and drew three walks, Harper had four hits and an RBI and Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and an RBI. Adam LaRoche had a hit and drew a walk, Ian Desmond had a hit and Daniel Espinosa had a hit. Kurt Suzuki had two hits and an RBI, Tyler Moore had a hit and two RBI and Chad Tracy had a hit. Harper, Desmond and Espinosa each hit a double and Moore hit a homerun. The Nationals were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Desmond was caught stealing and Zimmerman committed an error.

In the first Zimmerman hit a sacrifice fly giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead. In the fifth Murphy hit an RBI double and Wright hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. Moore hit a two run homerun in the seventh to make it a 3-2 Nationals lead. In the ninth Suzuki hit an RBI groundout and Harper hit an RBI single to make it 5-2. Hairston hit a solo homerun in the ninth to make it a 5-3 game and that was the final.

The Mets have lost the first two games of this three game series. The Mets record fell to 65-77 and the Nationals record improved to 88-54. The final game of the series will be played on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets salvage the final game of the series in St. Louis

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched well. Mike Baxter and Ike Davis led the Mets offense. Adam Wainwright started for the Cardinals and didn’t pitch that well. Jon Jay and Descalso led the Cardinals offense.
Dickey pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Dickey picked up his 18^th win of the season, Josh Edgin struck out the only batter he faced and Jon Rauch pitched a perfect inning. Frank Francisco pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one. Wainwright pitched five innings giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and five strikeouts. He lost his 12^th game of the season, Shelby Miller pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out four and Victor Marte didn’t record an out giving up three hits and a run. Marc Rzepczynski pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Sam Freeman pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out the side.

Baxter had two hits, Daniel Murphy had three hits and Davis had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks. Jay had two hits, Lance Berkman had a hit and Matt Carpenter drew a walk. Shane Chambers had a hit, Daniel Descalso had two hits and Tony Cruz had a hit. Wainwright had a hit and an RBI, Jackson had a hit and Wainwright hit a homerun. The Cardinals were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

In the second Thole hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. Duda had an RBI walk in the third to give the Mets a 2-0 lead and Wainwright hit a solo homerun to make it a one run game in the third. Davis hit a three run homerun in the fifth to pad the Mets lead to 5-1. In the seventh Allen Craig hit into a double play scoring a run and making it a 5-2 game. Torres hit an RBI single in the eighth to push the lead to 6-2 and that was the final score.

The Mets lost two out of three in the series. The Mets record improved to 65-72 and the Cardinals record fell to 74-63. The Mets will have the day off on Thursday and then begin a three game series against the Atlanta Braves on Friday.

The New York Mets shutout the Miami Marlins behind Dickey and his ML leading 17th win

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 3-0 on Friday night. The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and was brilliant. The Mets didn’t even have to use their bullpen and Ike Davis was their offense. Nathan Eovaldi started for the Marlins and pitched well, their bullpen was good. The Marlins offense was led by Justin Ruggiano. 
Dickey pitched a complete game shutout. He gave up five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Dickey is now 17-4 on the season. Eovaldi lost his 10^th game of the season pitching seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. Wade LeBlanc pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Steve Cishek pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Ruben Tejada had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had a hit. Davis had a hit and three RBI, Mike Baxter drew a walk and Davis hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and they left two men on base. Murphy committed an error and Dickey had a pickoff.

The New York Mets break their six game losing streak with a win over the Houston Astros

The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The game was played at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen also pitched well. Andres Torres led the Mets offense with a couple of hits. Abad started for the Astros and pitched pretty well and the bullpen was up and down. The Astros offense only managed five hits. 
Dickey won his 16^th game of the season and pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run. Dickey walked one and struck out two. Jon Rauch pitched 2/3 of an inning and retired both hitters, Josh Edgin retired the only batter that he faced and Frank Francisco saved his 21^st game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. Fernando Abad lost his first game of the season pitching four innings and giving up four hits and a run with four walks and two strikeouts. Mickey Storey pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Hector Ambriz pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Fernando Rodriguez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. Xavier Cedeno pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and striking out one.

In the seventh the Astros scored their only run on a Dickey wild pitch to make it 2-1. Bay hit an RBI single in the eighth and that would be the final run of the game as the Mets won 3-1.

The Mets evened the three game series at one with the rubber game on Sunday afternoon. The Mets ended their six game losing streak and their record improved to 58-69. The Astros record dropped to 40-87

The Mets lose to the Rockies at Citi Field

The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies by the score of 3-1 on Monday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen had mixed results. Mike Baxter led the Mets offense. White started for the Rockies and pitched well for the four innings that he pitched. The Rockies bullpen pitched well and Colvin led the Rockies offense.  Dickey pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts. Josh Edgin took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run which was unearned, Jon Rauch pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Ramon Ramirez struck out the only batter that he faced. Alex White pitched four innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts. Guillermo Moscoso pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Rex Brothers picked up his seventh win of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Matt Belisle pitched to one batter and retired him and Rafael Betancourt picked up his 24^th save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Jonathan Herrera had a hit, White had a hit and Colvin hit a homerun. The White Sox were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Fowler had a stolen base and Rosario had a pickoff.
Murphy had an RBI single in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the fifth Colvin hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one. In the eighth a passed ball scored a run and made it 2-1 Rockies. Hernandez hit an RBI single in the ninth to make it 3-1 and that was the final score.
The Mets are now a season high eight games under 500. The Mets record fell to 57-65 and the Rockies record improved to 47-73. The two teams will play game two of their four game series on Tuesday night.

The Mets continue to fade away as Dickey didn't have his best start

The New York Mets were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 6-1 on Wednesday night. The game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and did not pitch his best. Jeremy Hefner was ok in relief but not great. The Mets offense only managed four hits as they continue to struggle with scoring runs. Mike Leake started for the Reds and pitched very well, Todd Frazier led their offense.  Dickey pitched six innings giving up 10 hits and five runs. He walked two and struck out nine and lost his fourth game of the season. Hefner pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run and he struck out one. Leake pitched nine innings giving up four hits and a run with four strikeouts. Leake won his fifth game of the season.
Mike Baxter had two hits and Ruben Tejada had two hits. The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and they left two men on base. Thole had three passed balls and Dickey had a pick off.
Zack Cozart had two hits and drew a walk, Drew Stubbs had a hit and Brandon Phillips had a hit and an RBI. Ryan Ludwick had a hit and an RBI, Jay Bruce had two hits and an RBI and Scott Rolen had two hits and an RBI. Frazier had three hits and an RBI, Devin Mesoraco drew a walk and Leake had a hit and an RBI. Cozart had a two doubles, Rolen had a double and Frazier hit a double. Rolen, Frazier and Bruce each hit a homerun. The Reds were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Frazier and Stubbs each had a stolen base. Bruce got picked off of first base.
Phillips hit an RBI single in the first to give the Reds a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Murphy grounded into a double play and a run scored to tie the game at one. In the fourth Rolen and Frazier each hit a solo homerun going back-to-back. It was 3-1 Reds and in the sixth they scored a couple of more runs. Bruce hit a solo homerun and Leake hit an RBI single making it 5-1. The Reds would add another run the final run of the game in the seventh. Ludwick hit an RBI single.
The Mets record fell to 55-62 and the Reds improved their record to 71-46 on the season. The Reds have won the first two of a three game series. The Mets will try and avoid a sweep on Thursday night.
