The New York Mets rally but fall to the Braves 4-3

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.  The game took place

at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 4-3.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets

and pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  David Wright led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Wheeler pitched five innings giving up eight hits and four runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six and suffered his second loss of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout, John Lannan pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Gonzalez Germen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ervin Santana picked up the win in his first start.  He pitched eight innings giving up three hits and no runs with six strikeouts.  Jordan Walden pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Craig Kimbrel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  He picked up his fourth save of the season. 

Eric Young Jr. had a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wright had two hits.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Lucas Duda had a hit and Juan Lagares had a hit and two RBI.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI and Murphy hit a double.  The Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jason Heyward had three hits and two RBI, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and Freddie Freeman had two hits and two RBI.  Evan Gattis had a hit, Santana had a hit and Gattis hit a double.  Heyward hit a homerun and the Braves were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Heyward hit a solo homerun giving the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Heyward hit an RBI single and Freeman hit a two run single to give the Braves a 4-0 lead.  It would stay that way until the ninth when the Mets had a rally.  Lagares hit a two run single and d'Arnaud hit an RBI single as the final score was 4-3.  The two teams will play their third and final game of the series on Thursday night.
