The New York Mets continue winning with victory over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-1.  Jon Niese started and pitched very well.  The bullpen held the lead and the offense was led by Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Niese won his second game of the season.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched an inning walking one and striking out one and Jose Valverde pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Cole Hamels lost his second game of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked five and struck out three.  Roberto Hernandez pitched to one batter and struck him out, Mario Hollands pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts and Jeff Manship pitched a perfect inning.  Shawn Camp pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had three hits and an RBI and Chris Young had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Satin had a hit and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk.  Tejada had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Niese had an RBI and drew a walk and Tejada and Young each hit a double.  The Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Murphy had a stolen base and Young Jr. committed an error. 

Chase Utley had a hit, Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI and Ryan Howard had two hits.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit and drew a walk, Asche drew a walk and Howard hit a double.  Byrd hit a homerun and the Phillies were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Revere had a stolen base. 

In the third Murphy hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Satin hit an RBI single in the fourth and Niese had an RBI walk to extend the lead to 3-0.  Byrd hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth Young hit an RBI double and Tejada hit a two run single to make it a 6-1 game and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play on Wednesday after a rainout on Tuesday.
