The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 4-2. Hiroki Kuroda
started and was better but not great.
The bullpen was good and the offense didn't do much.
Kuroda pitched six innings giving
up four runs with three of them earned.
He allowed seven hits and had a walk with seven strikeouts and lost his
third game of the season. Matt Thornton
pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings
striking out one and Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect inning.
Roenis Elias started for the
Mariners and pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of
them being earned. He walked two and
struck out ten and earned his second win of the season. Yoervis Medina pitched a perfect inning with
a strikeout and Fernando Rodney pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking
out one.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an
RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit. Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk,
Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI and Yangervis Solarte had a hit. Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Brett Gardner drew a
walk and Ellsbury hit a homerun. The
Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Jeter committed an error.
Michael Saunders had three hits and
an RBI, Stefen Romero had a hit and Robinson Cano had a hit and two RBI. Kyle Seager had a hit, Dustin Ackley had a
hit and drew a walk and Brad Miller had a hit and an RBI. Cano and Saunders hit a double and the
Mariners were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on
base. Ackley and Saunders were caught
stealing and Cano committed an error.
Cano hit an RBI double in the first
to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Ellsbury
hit a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one. In the third Cano hit an RBI groundout to
give the Mariners a 2-1 lead. Miller hit
an RBI single and Saunders an RBI double in the fourth. It was 4-1 Mariners and the Yankees would
score on a McCann RBI single in the sixth.
The final score was 4-2 and the Mariners swept the shortened two game
series. The Yankees will remain at home
and begin a three game weekend series with the Tampa Bay Rays. The first game will be on Friday night.
