The New York Mets lose to the St. Louis Cardinals



The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 6-2.  Jake deGrom started for the Mets and didn't pitch that well and no Met had more than a hit. 

deGrom pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 12 hits and six runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Dana Eveland pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs with a couple of strikeouts, Gonzalez Germen pitched a perfect inning and Josh Edgin pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Carlos Martinez pitched four innings giving up two hits and an unearned run.  He walked four and struck out three.  Nick Greenwood picked up his first win of the season pitching 3 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Randy Choate pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Maness pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Curtis Granderson had an RBI and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and David Wright had a hit.  Bobby Abreu drew a walk, Chris Young had a pinch hit and an RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Ruben Tejada drew two walks, Eric Young Jr. had a hit and Duda hit a double.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Young Jr. had an outfield assist.

John Jay had two hits and drew a walk, Matt Holliday had two hits and an RBI and Allen Craig had three hits and two RBI.  Mike Adams had two hits and two RBI, Yadier Molina had a hit and drew a walk and Jhonny Peralta had two hits and an RBI.  Jay and Craig each hit a double and Adams hit a triple.  The Cardinals were 6-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Peralta committed an error. 

In the first the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Craig.  Granderson hit a sacrifice fly in the third to tie the game at one.  In the third Adams hit an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Holliday hit an RBI single, Craig an RBI double and Adams an RBI triple to extend the Cardinals lead to 5-1.  Peralta hit an RBI single to make it 6-1.  Young hit an RBI single to make it 6-2 in the eighth and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.
