The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Texas Rangers on Monday night.
The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final
score was 4-2. David Phelps started for
the Yankees and he had one bad inning.
The Yankees offense was led by two Brett Gardner homeruns and three hits
by Derek Jeter.
Phelps pitched six innings giving
up eight hits and four runs with one walk and three strikeouts. Phelps lost his fifth game of the
season. Shawn Kelley pitched 1 2/3
innings giving up a walk and striking out two and Matt Thornton pitched 1/3 of
an inning picking up a strikeout.
Yu Darvish won his 10th game of the
season by pitching seven innings and giving up nine hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out eight. Neal Cotts pitched an inning and gave up two
hits and Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect inning to pick up his second save of
the season.
Gardner had three hits and two RBI,
Jeter had three hits and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had two hits. Chase Headley had a hit, Francisco Cervelli
had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a pinch hit.
Jeter hit a double and Gardner hit two homeruns. The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring
position and left nine men on base.
Jeter had a stolen base and McCann committed an error.
Shin-Soo Choo had a hit, Elvis
Andrus had a hit and an RBI and Alex Rios had two hits. Adrian Beltre had a hit and an RBI, Jim
Adduci drew a walk and J.P. Arencibia had a hit and two RBI. Chris Gimenez had a hit and drew a walk and Rougned
Odor had a hit. Choo and Beltre each hit
a double and the Rangers were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left
eight men on base.
The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the
third on a Gardner solo homerun. In the
fifth they took a 2-0 lead on a Gardner solo homerun. The Rangers scored all four of their runs in
the bottom of the fifth. Andrus hit an
RBI single, Beltre hit an RBI single and Arencibia hit a two run single. The final score was 4-2 Texas.
The two teams will play game two of
their three game series on Tuesday night.
