The New York Yankees get blown away in Miami



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 12-2.  Nathan Eovaldi started and couldn't even get out of the first inning.  Chris Capuano pitched decently in relief and the Yankees offense didn't do much of anything until the end of the game. 

Eovaldi pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up eight runs on nine hits.  He didn't walk anyone or strike out anyone and lost his second game of the season.  Capuano pitched four innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Chris Martin pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit adn a run and Jose Ramirez pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

David Phelps won his fourth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Steve Cishek pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Sam Dyson pitched a perfect inning. 

Mason Williams had a hit and an RBI, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  John Ryan Murphy had a hit, Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Stephen Drew had a walk, Garrett Jones had a hit and Beltran and Williams each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Dee Gordon had three hits and an RBI, Derek Dietrich had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Christian Yelich had two hits and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and three RBI, Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk and Marcel Ozuna had two hits and two RBI.  Justin Bour had a hit and an RBI, J.T. Realmuto had two hits and two RBI and Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and two RBI.  Dietrich hit a double, Hechavarria hit a triple and Stanton hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 9-18 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Dietrich and Hechavarria each committed an error.  Realmuto had a passed ball. 

In the first Ozuna hit an RBI single making it 2-0 Miami.  Bour and Realmuto each hit an RBI single.  Hechavarria hit a two run triple, Gordon hit an RBI single and Dietrich hit an RBI double all in the first inning to make it 8-0 Marlins.  In the fifth Stanton hit a three run homerun to push the lead to 11-0.  In the sixth McCann hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 11-1 and in the seventh Williams hit an RBI double to make it 11-2 Marlins.  In the eighth Realmuto hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 12-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will now head to New York to play the next two at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Yankees take a wild rubber game in Boston



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 8-7.  David Phelps started and was bad and then left with an injury.  Esmil Rogers pitched great in relief in his Yankees debut and Brett Gardner had three hits and three RBI and Stephen Drew had two hits and four RBI.

Phelps pitched two innings giving up six hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out none.  Chase Whitley pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Rogers won his first game of the season pitching three scoreless innings with a walk and three strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  David Robertson earned his 29th save of the season pitching an inning and walking a batter. 

Clay Buchholz pitched five innings giving up  eight hits and seven runs with five walks and five strikeouts.  Craig Breslow lost his third game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run, Junichi Tazawa pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Edward Mujica pitched a perfect inning.  Koji Uehard pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Gardner had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had two hits, Brian McCann had a hit and drew two walks and Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI.  Drew had two hits and four RBI, Martin Prado drew a walk and Gardner, McCann, Drew, Beltran and Headley each hit a double.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Brock Holt had a hit, Dustin Pedroia had two hits and two RBI and David Ortiz had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk, Mike Napoli had a hit and Daniel Nava had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Christian Vasquez had two hits and drew two walks, Pedroia and Ortiz each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly and Nava hit a two run single to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.  In the second Drew grounded into a force out and Gardner hit a two run double to tie the game at three.  Pedroia hit a two run homerun in the second to extend the lead to 5-3.  Drew hit an RBI double in the fourth to make it a 5-4 game.  In the fourth Ortiz hit a two run homerun to make it a 7-4 game.  In the fifth Headley hit an RBI double and Drew hit a two run single to tie the game at seven.  Gardner hit a solo homerun in the sixth to give the Yankees an 8-7 lead and that would be the final score.  The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will head home to face the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.

The New York Yankees lose to the Texas Rangers as the offense falters again



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Monday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 4-2.  David Phelps started for the Yankees and he had one bad inning.  The Yankees offense was led by two Brett Gardner homeruns and three hits by Derek Jeter.

Phelps pitched six innings giving up eight hits and four runs with one walk and three strikeouts.  Phelps lost his fifth game of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two and Matt Thornton pitched 1/3 of an inning picking up a strikeout. 

Yu Darvish won his 10th game of the season by pitching seven innings and giving up nine hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Neal Cotts pitched an inning and gave up two hits and Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect inning to pick up his second save of the season. 

Gardner had three hits and two RBI, Jeter had three hits and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had two hits.  Chase Headley had a hit, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a pinch hit.  Jeter hit a double and Gardner hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Jeter had a stolen base and McCann committed an error. 

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit, Elvis Andrus had a hit and an RBI and Alex Rios had two hits.  Adrian Beltre had a hit and an RBI, Jim Adduci drew a walk and J.P. Arencibia had a hit and two RBI.  Chris Gimenez had a hit and drew a walk and Rougned Odor had a hit.  Choo and Beltre each hit a double and the Rangers were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.   

The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Gardner solo homerun.  In the fifth they took a 2-0 lead on a Gardner solo homerun.  The Rangers scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Andrus hit an RBI single, Beltre hit an RBI single and Arencibia hit a two run single.  The final score was 4-2 Texas. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees win a rain shortened game over the Texas Rangers



The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  David Phelps started and pitched well.  The rains came in the fifth inning and the grounds crew just couldn't get the tarp on in time.  The field was soaked and deemed too dangerous to play in and the game was called after a long delay.  Francisco Cervelli had two hits and Brett Gardner a hit and an RBI. 

Phelps pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run.  He walked none and struck out three to earn his fifth win of the season. 

Yu Darvish pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out five and lost his sixth game of the season. 

Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Cervelli had two hits.  Headley hit a double and Cervelli hit two doubles.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Alex Rios had a hit, Adrian Beltre had a hit and Leonys Martin had two hits.  Gimenenez had a hit, Martin hit a triple and the Rangers were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Rios was caught stealing and Beltre committed an error. 

All the runs of the game were scored in the third inning.  The Rangers took a 1-0 lead on a ground ball double play.  Cervelli scored on a balk to tie the game for the Yankees and then Gardner hit a solo homerun to give them a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams will finish their four game series on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees begin second half with a win over the Cincinnati Reds



The New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  David Phelps started and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Jacoby Ellsbury hit a two run homerun and Derek Jeter and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. 

Phelps pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three runs, only two of them were earned.  He gave up six hits and a walk and struck out seven to pick up his fourth win of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings and struck out three and David Robertson gave up a hit in one inning and earned his 24th save of the season. 

Mike Leake pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his eighth game of the season and Sam LeCure pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Jeter had two hits and Ellsbury had two hits and two RBI.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI and Beltran had two hits and an RBI.  Kelly Johnson had a hit, McCann and Beltran each hit a double and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner, Ellsbury and Beltran each had a stolen base and Roberts, Jeter and Betances each committed an error. 

Zack Cozart had two hits, Jay Bruce drew a walk and Devin Mesoraco had an RBI.  Brayan Pena had two hits and two RBI, Chris Heisey had two hits and Ramon Santiago had a hit.  Pena hit two homeruns and the Reds were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bruce was caught stealing. 

In the first inning McCann hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Pena hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the third Beltran hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  The Reds tied the game in the fourth on a fielding error by Jeter.  In the fifth Ellsbury hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead.  Pena hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.  The Yankees have a ten game homestand to open the second half of the season.  They also play most of their games at home in the second half, more than any other team in baseball.  It would be a good time for them to get good at home.

The New York Yankees lose finale in Cleveland as the bullpen implodes



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 9-3.  The Yankees had a 3-0 lead in the seventh inning but then gave up nine unanswered runs in the last two innings.  David Phelps started and pitched well and the bullpen was bad.  Derek Jeter, Jacoby Ellsbury and Zelous Wheeler each had two hits to pace the offense. 

Phelps pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He walked three and struck out five.  Matt Thornton lost his third game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and two runs and Jim Miller 1 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

T.J. House pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Vinnie Pestano pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Kyle Crockett pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Carlos Carrasco picked up his second win pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout.   Scott Atchison pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one and Nick Hagadone pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jeter had two hits and drew a walk and Ellsbury had two hits.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk, Brian McCann drew a walk and Francisco Cervelli had a hit.  Wheeler had two hits and two RBI, Yangervis Solarte had a hit and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a pinch hit.  Wheeler hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

Jeff Kipnis had three hits and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Michael Brantley had two hits and two RBI.  Carlos Santana had a hit and two RBI, Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit and drew a walk and Nick Swisher had a hit.  Chris Dickerson had three hits and Roberto Perez had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Dickerson hit a double, Perez hit a triple and a homerun and Santana hit a homerun.  The Indians were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Kipnis had two stolen bases and Chisenhall committed an error. 

In the fourth Wheeler hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Solarte hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 3-0.  In the seventh Cabrera hit a three run triple and Brantley hit a sacrifice fly to give the Indians a 4-3 lead.  In the eighth Perez hit a two run homerun, Brantley hit an RBI single and Santana hit a two run homerun to give the Indians a 9-3 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the four game series and now the Yankees will travel to Baltimore for the final three games before the All Star Break.

The New York Yankees lose a tough one in extras to the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 2-1 in 11 innings.  David Phelps started and pitched great.  The Yankees offense didn't do much, Francisco Cervelli had two hits but was also the goat as his error lost the game in the 11th. 

Phelps pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks.  He struck out three batters.  Shawn Kelley pitched two innings giving up two hits and striking out four and Matt Thornton took his second loss of the season.  Thornton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run.  He walked one and struck out one. 

Yohan Pino pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks.  He struck out three batters.  Matt Guerrier pitched an inning giving up a hit, Casey Fien pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Glen Perkins pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Jared Burton pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Brian Duensing pitched an inning giving up a hit and picking up his second win of the season. 

Derek Jeter, Brian Roberts and Jacoby Ellsbury each had a hit.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Cervelli had two hits and an RBI, the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Suzuki and Jeter each had a stolen base, Cervelli committed an error and Thornton had a pickoff. 

Brian Dozier had a hit, Kurt Suzuki had two hits and drew a walk and Chris Colabello had a hit.  Josh Willingham had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Trevor Plouffe drew a walk and Sam Fuld had two hits.  Colabello hit a double, Willingham hit a homerun and the Twins were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Fuld was picked off and Plouffe committed an error. 

In the fifth Cervelli hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  The Twins tied the game in the seventh on a Willingham solo homerun.  The Twins won the game 2-1 in the 11th on a Cervelli throwing error.  The Twins had bases loaded one out and grounded out to the pitcher who threw home for the force and then Cervelli threw it into right field.  He should of held on to it and tried to get the last out on the next batter.  The final game of the series is on Sunday afternoon and the Yankees will look to take the series three out of four.

The New York Yankees lose in extra innings to the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3 in 12 innings.  David Phelps started and pitched well and the bullpen did a good job.  The offense struggled but Brian Roberts hit a big game tying homerun in the ninth. 

Phelps pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up one hit and two walks with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and two walks and David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one.  Shawn Kelley pitched two innings giving up two hits and striking out two and Jose Ramirez took the loss, his second of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk. 

Chris Archer pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one, Joel Peralta pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Grant Balfour pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.  Brad Boxberger won his first game pitching two innings with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit an RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and an RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Kelly Johnson drew a walk, Brian Roberts had two hits and an RBI and Gardner hit a triple and Roberts hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury and Jeter each had a stolen base. 

Desmond Jennings drew two walks, Ben Zobrist drew three walks and Matt Joyce had a hit and an RBI.  Evan Longoria had a hit, James Loney had a hit and Brandon Guyer drew two walks.  Logan Forsythe had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Ryan Hanigan had a hit and an RBI.  Kevin Kiermaier had three hits and an RBI, him and Joyce each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Brandon Guyer had two stolen bases  and Jennings was caught stealing twice. 

Joyce homered in the first to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  Kiermaier hit a solo homerun in the third to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Gardner hit an RBI triple and Jeter hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at two.  In the eighth Hanigan hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Rays.  In the bottom of the ninth Roberts hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the 12th Forsythe hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 4-3 lead and that was the final score.

The New York Yankees rally back to eventually lose in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 7-6.  David Phelps started and didn't pitch that well.  The Yankees offense showed up though and rallied from six down. 

Phelps pitched  five innings giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked one and struck out seven, Matt Thornton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Adam Warren suffered his fourth loss of the season.  He gave up a hit and an unearned run without recording an out. 

Mark Buehrle pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with three strikeouts.  Dustin McGowan gave up two hits and two unearned runs without recording an out and gave up a walk, Aaron Loup pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Kenley Janssen won his second game pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Janssen won his second game of the season. 

Brett Gardner had two hits, Derek Jeter had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI.  Alfonso Soriano had a hit, Brian McCann had two hits and Brian Roberts had two hits and two RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit, Roberts, McCann, Gardner each hit a double and Jeter and Roberts each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Solarte committed an error. 

Jose Reyes had two hits, Adam Lind had a hit and drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and drew a walk.  Colby Rasmus had a hit and two RBI, Dioner Navarro had three hits and three RBI and Tolleson drew a walk.  Kawasaki had a hit, Reyes hit a double and Navarro hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes committed two errors and Cabrera had an error. 

In the fourth Navarro hit a three run homerun to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.  In the fifth Rasmus  hit a three run single to give the Jays a 6-0 lead.  Jeter hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-1 game in the sixth.  Roberts hit a two run homerun in the seventh, Ellsbury hit an RBI single and Teixeira reached on an error by Reyes and two runs scored to tie the game at six.  In the ninth Cabrera had a sac bunt and Solarte committed a throwing error to allow the running win to score.  The final was 7-6 Blue Jays.  The two teams will play game three of their three game set on Wednesday night and the Yankees will try and avoid the sweep.

The New York Yankees sweep the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4 Yankees.  David Phelps started for the Yankees and pitched well.  Derek Jeter, Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira each had a couple of hits and Carlos Beltran had a couple of RBI. 

Phelps pitched seven innings giving up two runs on six hits.  He walked two and struck out seven and earned his third win of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Matt Thornton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning and picked up his second save of the season. 

Drew Hutchison pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Hutchison lost his fifth game of the season, Aaron Loup pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Dustin McGowan pitched to two batters and retired them both and Steve Delabar pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks.  Chad Jenkins pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Jeter had two hits and an RBI and Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI.  Teixeira had two hits and drew a walk, Brian McCann drew two walks and Beltran had a hit and two RBI.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Brian Roberts had a hit and drew two walks and Kelly Johnson had an RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had an RBI and drew a walk, Gardner and Beltran each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Ellsbury and Roberts each had two stolen bases and Jeter was caught stealing.  Phelps had a pickoff. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Melky Cabrera had two hits and two RBI and Jose Bautista drew two walks.  Edward Encarnacion had two hits and two RBI, Dioner Navarro had a hit and Juan Francisco drew a walk.  Colby Rasmus had two hits including a double and Cabrera and Encarnacion each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera was picked off. 

The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the first on an Ellsbury sacrifice fly.  In the second they took a 2-0 lead on a Johnson sacrifice fly.  Cabrera hit a two run homerun in the third to tie the game at two.  The Yankees came right back in the bottom of the third and scored on a Beltran sac fly.  It was 3-2 Yankees and then Beltran hit an RBI double in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-2.  Jeter hit an RBI groundout in the sixth to push it to 5-2.  Solarte had an RBI walk to make it 6-2 and then Encarnacion hit a two run homerun in the eighth to make it 6-4 which was the final score. 

The Yankees swept the three game series and will begin a three game home series with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

The New York Yankees win streak ends at two in Kansas City



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 8-4.  David Phelps started and didn' t pitch well and Jacoby Ellsbury and Yangervis Solarte each had two hits. 

Phelps pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and seven runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Phelps lost his fourth game of the season, Matt Daley pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Jose Ramirez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one. 

Danny Duffy pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Aaron Crow won his third game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout, Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Michael Mariot pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.

Derek Jeter had a hit, Ellsbury had two hits and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Solarte had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Brian Roberts had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Beltran and Solarte each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Roberts was caught stealing. 

Nori Aoki had a hit and an RBI, Jarrod Dyson drew a walk and Eric Hosmer had a hit and an RBI.  Billy Butler had a hit and drew a walk, Alex Gordon had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Salvador Perez had three hits and three RBI.  Lorenzo Cain had three hits and an RBI, Mike Moustakas had a hit and Alcides Escobar had a hit and an RBI.  Butler, Gordon and Perez each hit a double.  Cain hit a triple, Perez and Hosmer each hit a homerun and the Royals were 7-15 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Gordon hit an RBI double in the second, Cain hit an RBI single and Escobar hit an RBI single to make it 3-0.  In the sixth Beltran hit an RBI double and Solarte hit a two run single to tie the game at three.  In the bottom of the sixth Perez hit a three run homerun and Aoki hit an RBI single to give the Royals a 7-3 lead.  The Royals would add a run in the seventh with a Hosmer solo homerun and then in the ninth Roberts hit an RBI groundout to make it 8-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two of their four game series.  The teams will play game three on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees drop makeup game to the Seattle Mariners



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-2.  David Phelps started and pitched pretty well for six innings but then in the 7th the wheels fell off.  Alfredo Aceves let it get out of control from the bullpen.  Jacoby Ellsbury, Yangervis Solarte and Kelly Johnson each had two hits. 

Phelps pitched six innings giving up six hits and six runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Phelps lost his third game of the season, Matt Thornton pitched  an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Aceves pitched two innings giving up five hits and four runs with a strikeout. 

Felix Hernandez won his eighth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up eight hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out eight.  Charlie Furbush pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Joe Beimel pitched an inning striking out one. 

Ellsbury had two hits, Brian McCann had a hit and Solarte had two hits.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and two RBI, Brian Roberts had a hit and Johnson had two hits.  Solarte hit a double and the Yankees were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Phelps had a pickoff. 

Michael Saunders had two hits and three RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and drew two walks and Justin Smoak had a hit.  Kyle Seager had four hits and three RBI, Zunino had two hits and an RBI and Dustin Ackley had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brad Miller had a hit and two RBI, Zunino and Seager each hit a double and Seager hit two triples.  Saunders and Seager each hit a homerun and the Mariners were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ackley was caught stealing and Cano was picked off. 

In the second Zunino hit an RBI single giving the Mariners a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Ackley hit into a force out scoring a run and making it 2-0.  The Yankees came back in the fourth with two runs on a Suzuki RBI hit.  Miller hit a two run single in the seventh and Saunders hit  a two run single to make it 6-2 Mariners.  In the ninth Saunders hit a solo homerun and Seager hit a three run homerun to cap the scoring at 10-2.  The Yankees will remain home and take on the Oakland Athletics in a three game series beginning on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees win streak ends at three in St. Louis



The New York Yankees were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 6-0.  David Phelps started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well, the defense was sloppy.  The offense only managed five hits. 

Phelps pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs with three of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his second game of the season.  Alfredo Aceves pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts. 

Lance Lynn won his sixth game of the season pitching a complete game shutout.  He gave up five hits and three walks with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Derek Jeter drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk, Brian Roberts had a hit and Brendan Ryan had a hit.  McCann and Roberts each hit a double. The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.   Kelly Johnson and Roberts each committed an error. 

Matt Carpenter had a hit, Matt Holliday had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Matt Adams had three hits and an RBI.  Yadier Molina drew a walk, Allen Craig had two hits and two RBI and Jhonny Peralta had a hit and an RBI.  Adams hit a double, Craig and Holliday each hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the third Adams hit an RBI double, Craig reached on a missed catch error allowing a run to score.  Peralta reached on a force attempt, error by Roberts allowing two runs to score.  It was 4-0 Cardinals and they added a run in the in the fifth on a Craig solo homerun.  The Cardinals scored the sixth and final run of the game in the seventh on a Holliday solo homerun.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night and the Yankees will play the rubber game of their nine game road trip.  They are 4-4 on the trip so far.

The New York Yankees late rally against Chicago White Sox falls just short



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at US Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 3-2.  David Phelps started for the Yankees and was very good.  The offense couldn't get anything going against Chris Sale who dominated them. 

Phelps pitched seven innings giving up two runs and six hits.  He walked one and struck out eight and took his first loss of the season.  Alfredo Aceves pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Chris Sale pitched six innings giving up no runs and one hit.  He walked none and struck out ten and won his fourth game of the season.  Zach Putnam pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Daniel Webb pitched a perfect inning and Ronald Belisario pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them earned.  He walked one and struck out two and picked up his second save of the season. 

Derek Jeter drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and two RBI and Zoilo Almonte had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Almonte had a stolen base. 

Adam Eaton had two hits and an RBI, Gordon Beckham had a hit and Adam Dunn had a hit and an RBI.  Alexei Ramirez had a hit and drew a walk, Paul Konerko had a hit and Alejandro De Aza had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Flowers had a hit and drew a walk, Konerko, De Aza and Beckham each hit a double.  The White Sox were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ramirez had a stolen base, Flowers had a passed ball. 

In the second De Aza hit an RBI double and Eaton hit an RBI single to give the White Sox a 2-0 lead.  In the eighth Dunn had an RBI single to push the White Sox lead to 3-0.  In the ninth the Yankees scored two runs on a Teixeira two run single.  The Yankees and White Sox will play game two of four on Friday night.

The New York Yankees win third straight with the long ball



The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-2.  David Phelps started and was in trouble all day but was able to not give up a run and get the win.  The bullpen was good and the offense slugged five homeruns. 

Phelps pitched five innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out five.  Dellin Betances pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts, Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Matt Daley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Edinson Volquez pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Jared Hughes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Vin Mazzaro pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had two hits and Mark Teixeira had a hit and two RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit and two RBI, Alfonso Soriano had two hits and an RBI and Brian Roberts had a hit.  Zoilo Almonte had a hit and an RBI, Soriano hit a double and Teixeira, Soriano, Almonte, Gardner and McCann each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Gardner and Soriano each had an outfield assist. 

Jose Tabata had a hit, Neil Walker drew a walk and Andrew McCutchen drew a walk.  Starling Marte had three hits and an RBI, Ike Davis drew a walk and Gaby Sanchez had a hit.  Jordy Mercer had a hit, Sanchez had two hits including a double and Marte hit a double.  Marte hit a homerun and the Pirates were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Marte and McCutchen each had a stolen base and Marte was caught stealing. 

Teixeira hit a two run homerun in the first to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Almonte hit a solo homerun in the third to increase the lead to 3-0.  Marte hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Gardner hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1 Yankees.  Soriano hit a solo homerun in the seventh to make it 5-1.  In the eighth McCann hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 7-1 lead.  7-1 was the final score and now the teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees rally and then fall just short in Milwaukee



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the final score was 5-4 in 11 innings.  David Phelps started and didn't pitch that well.  John Ryan Murphy led the offense with three hits and Mark Teixeira and Yangervis Solarte each had two hits. 

Phelps pitched five innings giving up eight hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out one.  Matt Thornton didn't record an out and gave up a hit and a run, Dellin Betances pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out one and Adam Warren took his second loss of the season.  He pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Matt Garza pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked four and struck out four.  Brandon Kintzler pitched an inning giving up a hit, Zach Duke pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Rob Wooten pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Will Smith pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and Francisco Rodriguez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run.  He was charged with his first blown save of the season but he picked up his first win of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Derek Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.   Teixeira had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson had a hit and two RBI, Solarte had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk.  Murphy had three hits, Gardner and Johnson each hit a double and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Carlos Gomez had a hit and drew a walk, Logan Schafer had a hit and an RBI and Rickie Weeks had three hits and two RBI.  Lyle Overbay had a hit and an RBI, Mark Reynolds had two hits and an RBI and Khalil Davis drew a walk.  Jean Segura had a hit and drew a walk, Martin Maldonado had a hit and Garza had a hit.  Jonathan Lucroy had a hit and an RBI, Caleb Gindl drew a walk and Garza, Schafer and Weeks each hit a double.  The Brewers were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gomez and Segura each had a stolen base and Weeks was caught stealing. 

The Yankees took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.  Johnson hit a two run double and Solarte hit a sacrifice fly.  In the third Weeks hit an RBI single and Overbay hit an RBI single to cut the Yankees lead to 3-2.  In the sixth Lucroy hit an RBI single, Schafer hit an RBI double and Weeks reached on a fielder's choice scoring a run to give the Brewers a 5-3 lead.  In the seventh Solarte hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-4.  In the ninth Texeira hit a solo homerun to tie the game at five.  In the bottom of the ninth Reynolds hit a walk-off game winning single.  The Brewers won the game 6-5 and took the series two out of three.

New York Yankees lose in Anaheim after a lousy eighth


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim on Monday night.  The game took place at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 4-1.  David Phelps started and pitched well.  Shawn Kelley had all kinds of trouble in the eighth with control and the offense didn't do much once again.  The offense had the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth and couldn't score.
Phelps pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up one run on three hits.  He walked one and struck out three.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and struck out one, Kelly lost his second game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up three runs on four walks.  Matt Thornton walked the only batter he faced and Preston Claiborne pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter. 
Jered Weaver won his third game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up six hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Ernesto Frieri earned his third save of the season by pitching an inning.  He struck out two batters. 
Derek Jeter had two hits, Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Kelly Johnson had a hit.  Brian Roberts had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Jeter hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Teixeira committed an error. 
Mike Trout drew a walk, Albert Pujols had two hits and drew an intentional walk and Raul Ibanez drew a pinch hit walk.  Howie Kendrick had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Ian Stewart had an RBI and John McDonald drew an RBI walk.  Chris Iannetta had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Colin Cowgill drew a walk and Kendrick hit a triple.  The Angels were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 
In the fifth Stewart hit an RBI groundout giving the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Teixeira hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the eight Kendrick drew an RBI walk, McDonald drew an RBI walk and Iannetta drew an RBI walk.  The Angels took a 4-1 lead and that is how the game ended. 
The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The Yankees have lost five of their last six games and are one game over 500.

New York Yankees defeat the Boston Red Sox 3-2

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Jet

Blue Park in Fort Myers, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  David Phelps started for the Yankees

and pitched well.  The Yankees bullpen was outstanding and Ichiro Suzuki had a couple of RBI. 

Phelps pitched six innings giving up two runs on four hits.  He got into trouble in the sixth as he tired but was able to get through it and preserve the lead.  He walked two and struck out three.  Chris Leroux pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings, Fred Lewis gave up a hit in 2/3 of an inning and had a strikeout and Matt Daley pitched one perfect inning. 

Suzuki had a hit and two RBI, Dean Anna had a hit and Eduardo Nunez had a hit.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Cervelli had a hit and an RBI and Zoilo Almonte drew a walk.  Adonis Garcia had a hit, Zelous Wheeler had a hit and drew a walk and Wheeler hit a double and Cervelli hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  The Yankees will play the Pittsburgh Pirates at home on Friday night.

The New York Yankees are defeated by the Baltimore Orioles under the lights in Tampa

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took

place at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  The final score was 3-2 and David Phelps started for

the Yankees.  Phelps was hit pretty hard but he battled and didn't give up much.  Francisco Cervelli

hit a homerun for the Yankees. 

Phelps pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out two.  Matt Thornton faced one batter and retired him, Brian Gordon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Chris Leroux pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.  Chase Whitley took the loss pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Cesar Cabral pitched an inning walking one and Preston Claiborne pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Carlos Beltran drew a walk and Brian Roberts had a hit and drew a walk.  Scott Sizemore seeing his first action of the spring had a hit, Cervelli had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Brendan Ryan had a hit.  Russ Canzler had a hit, Francisco Arcia had a hit and Yangervis Solarte had a hit and an RBI. 

Cervelli hit a homerun, the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the second on a Cervelli solo homerun and Solarte RBI single.  Jemile Weeks grounded out scoring a run in the top of the third for the Orioles.  The Yankees lead was cut in half to 2-1.  In the seventh the Orioles scored the final two runs of the game.  Quintin Berry hit and RBI single and Julio Borbon grounded out to score another run. 

The Yankees travel to Port Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon to face the Tampa Bay Rays.  Adam Warren will start the game.

The New York Yankees drop their fifth straight

The Anaheim Angels defeated the New York Yankees on Saturday night. The final score was 6-2 and the game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. David Phelps started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch bad, the offense scored two runs in one inning and that was it.

Phelps pitched six innings giving up nine hits and four runs with a couple of walks and strikeouts. Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks and Joba Chamberlain pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Jayson Nix had a hit and an RBI and Robinson Cano drew a walk. Ichiro Suzuki had two hits, Chris Stewart had a hit and Suzuki hit a double. Gardner hit a triple and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Nix and Stewart each had a stolen base and Suzuki had two. Suzuki was also caught stealing.

Tommy Hanson pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and eight strikeouts. Scott Downs struck out the only batter that he faced, Michael Kohn struck out the only batter that he faced and Kevin Jepsen pitched an inning striking out one. Ernesto Frieri pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.

Mike Trout had a hit and drew three walks, Josh Hamilton had a hit and an RBI and Albert Pujols had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk. Mark Trumbo drew a walk, Howie Kendrick had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Callaspo had a hit. Erick Aybar had two hits and two RBI, Peter Bourjos had two hits and Hamilton hit a double. Aybar hit a homerun and the Angels were 4-17 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Trout and Bourjos each had a stolen base and Hanson committed an error.

In the second Aybar hit a solo homerun giving the Angels a 1-0 lead. Gardner hit an RBI triple to tie the game in the third. Nix hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead that would be it for the Yankees scoring. Pujols hit an RBI single to tie the game at two in the third. Aybar hit an RBI single in the sixth to make it 3-2 Angels. In the seventh Hamilton hit an RBI double and Kendrick had an RBI walk to give the Angels a 5-2 lead. Pujols had an RBI single in the eight to make it 6-2 which would be the final score.

The Yankees have now lost five games in a row. The Yankees record dropped to 37-31 and the Angels record improved to 30-38. The two teams will play game three of three on Sunday afternoon with the Yankees looking to avoid their second straight sweep.
