The New York Yankees defeated the
Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 1-0. Shane Greene
started and pitched great and Stephen Drew knocked in the only run of the
game.
Greene pitched 8+ innings giving up
no runs and five hits. He walked three
and struck out five. Greene picked up
his third win of the season and David Robertson picked up his 31st save of the
season. Robertson pitched an inning
giving up a walk.
Rick Porcello was the hard luck
loser pitching seven innings and giving up nine hits and a run with five
strikeouts. Porcello lost his sixth game
of the season. Phil Coke pitched an
inning giving up a walk and striking out two.
Brett Gardner, Martin Prado and
Jacoby Ellsbury each had a hit. Carlos
Beltran had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Drew had a hit
and an RBI. Ichiro Suzuki had two hits,
Brendan Ryan had a hit and Drew hit a double.
The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men
on base.
Ezequiel Carrera had a hit, Ian
Kinsler had two hits and Victor Martinez had a hit and drew a walk. J.D. Martinez drew a walk, Don Kelly had a
hit and Nick Castellanos drew a walk.
Alex Avila drew a walk and the Tigers were 0-4 with runners in scoring
position and left six men on base.
The only run of the game was scored
in the fourth inning on a Drew RBI double.
It could of been two runs but the ball bounced in the stands for a
ground rule double and only allowed the one run to score which was enough for
Greene. The Yankees took three of four
in the series and will now begin a three game series with the Cleveland Indians
at home on Friday night.
