The New York Yankees take series from the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and in his first start since July 8th was good.  The bullpen was good and Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter, Brian McCann and Ichiro Suzuki each had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up one run on five hits.  He walked none and struck out four and won his 13th game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out three, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and David Robertson saved his 38th game of the season pitching an inning and he walked one and struck out one. 

Drew Hutchison pitched four innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked three and struck out six and took his 13th loss of the season.  Aaron Loup pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Todd Redmond pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Daniel Norris pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout.   Dustin McGowan pitched a perfect inning. 

Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Jeter had two hits and an RBI and McCann had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Young drew a walk, Chase Headley drew a walk and Francisco Cervelli drew two walks.  Suzuki had two hits including a double, Gardner and Jeter each hit a double.  McCann hit two homeruns and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Suzuki and Jeter each had a stolen base. 

Jose Reyes had three hits, Jose Bautista had a hit and Edward Encarnacion had two hits and an RBI.  Munenori Kawasaki had a hit, Dalton Pompey drew a walk and Kawasaki hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Reyes had two stolen bases and Navarro had a passed ball. 

In the first Encarnacion grounded into a double play and a run scored to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  McCann homered in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Gardner hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Jeter hit an RBI double and McCann hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead.  The Jays added a run in the eighth on a Encarnacion RBI single.  The final score was 5-2 and the Yankees took three out of four in the series.  The Yankees will begin their final home series of the year against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.
