The New York Yankees win streak ends at three in loss to the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Chris Capuano started and wasn't that good and Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki each had two hits. 

Capuano pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts and he lost his fourth game of the season.  Chase Whitley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Esmil Rogers pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out three and David Huff pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one.  David Phelps pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk. 

Marcus Stroman pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out seven and won his 11th game of the season.  Aaron Sanchez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and walking one, Brett Cecil pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Brandon Morrow pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run.  Casey Janssen saved his 24th game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits, Jeter had two hits and an RBI and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Chris Young had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Stephen Drew had a hit.  Suzuki had two hits, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and an RBI and Gardner, Young and Jeter each hit a double.  The Yankees were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Drew committed an error and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Jose Bautista had two hits, an RBI and drew three walks, Edward Encarnacion had three hits and an RBI and Dionar Navarro had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Danny Valencia had a hit and two RBI, John Mayberry had an RBI and Steve Tolleson had a hit.  Munenori Kawasaki drew a walk, Kevin Pillar had two hits and drew a walk and Encarnacion and Valencia each hit a double.  Bautista hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Tolleson committed an error. 

In the first Encarnacion hit an RBI double to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the third on a McCann RBI single.   In the fourth Cervelli hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Yankees.  In the sixth Valencia hit a two run double to make it 3-2 Jays and Mayberry hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.  Bautista hit a solo homerun in the seventh to make it 5-2 Jays.  In the ninth Navarro hit an RBI single to make it 6-2 and Jeter hit an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to 6-3 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of their four game series on Sunday afternoon and Masahiro Tanaka will return to test out his elbow.
