New York Yankees win rubber game over the Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-1.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Aaron Judge had three hits and four players had two hits including Gary Sanchez who also had five RBI. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up four hits and one unearned run.  He walked two and struck out eight and earned his seventh win of the season.  Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Giovanny Gallegos pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

David Price lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked four and struck out four.  Fernando Abad pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Brandon Workman pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and two RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Judge had three hits and drew a walk.  Matt Holliday drew three walks, Starlin Castro had two hits and two RBI and Sanchez had two hits, five RBI and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Sanchez hit two homeruns.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Headley committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Xander Bogaerts had a hit and Mitch Moreland had a hit and drew a walk.  Hanley Ramirez had a hit and drew a walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. drew a walk and Jeff Rutledge drew a walk.  The Red Sox were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Betts was caught stealing. 

In the second Gardner hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Sanchez hit a three-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the fourth a passed ball cut the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Sanchez hit his second homerun which was a two-run homerun extending the lead to 6-1.  In the sixth Castro hit an RBI single and the lead was 7-1.  In the eighth Gardner hit a solo homerun and Castro hit an RBI ground out to make it 9-1.  The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will now play the Orioles three games beginning on Friday night in the Bronx. 

New York Yankees salvage the final game of their series with the Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched really well and their big three in the bullpen closed it out.  The Yankees offense had five players with two hits. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  He won his seventh game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a strikeout, Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a walk and he saved his 18th game. 

David Price pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 11 hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning with a strikeout, Heath Hembree pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Tommy Layne retired the only two batters that he faced. 

Brett Gardner had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI and Carlos Beltran had two hits.  Alex Rodriguez drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had two hits and Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI.  Rob Refsnyder drew a walk and Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI.  Beltran, Castro and Gregorius each hit a double and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Castro committed an error. 

Dustin Pedroia had a hit and an RBI, David Ortiz drew a walk and Travis Shaw drew a walk.  Sandy Leon had a hit, Brock Holt had a hit and Bryce Brentz drew a walk.  Holt hit a double and Pedroia hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bradley Jr. committed an error. 

In the first Pedroia hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Castro hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Romine hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 still in the fourth and Ellsbury hit an RBI single to push the Yankees lead to 3-1 in the fourth.  The game would end 3-1 and the Yankees would avoid the three game sweep.  The Yankees will remain at home for a four game series with the first place Baltimore Orioles beginning on Monday night.   

New York Yankees win their second straight over the Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-2.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and he pitched very well and Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius each had two hits and Austin Romine had three hits to lead the offense. 

Eovaldi pitched eight innings giving up six hits and two runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  Eovaldi won his second game of the season.  Nick Goody pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

David Price lost his first game of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Matt Barnes pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Tommy Layne pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Sean O'Sullivan pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.

In the second Holt hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the third Romine hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a three run double and the Yankees had a 4-1 lead.  In the fifth Bradley Jr. hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the fifth Beltran hit a two run double to extend the Yankees lead to 6-2.  In the sixth Hicks hit a sac fly and it was 7-2 Yankees.  In the eighth Romine hit an RBI double to make it 8-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won the first two of this three game series and will go for the sweep on Sunday night.  They have also won three of their last four games. 

The New York Yankees lose game one of huge series against the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 4-2 Blue Jays.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and struggled early and didn't last deep into the game.  The Yankees bullpen was good and Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Warren pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  James Pazos pitched to two batters retiring them both, Caleb Cotham pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walking two.  Branden Pinder pitched giving up a hit and a run and two walks without recording an out and Andrew Bailey pitched two innings giving up a hit. 

David Price earned his 17th win of the season pitching seven innings and giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Aaron Sanchez didn't record an out and gave up a hit and a run with a walk, Brett Cecil pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out the side and Roberto Osuna pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and he earned his 17th save of the season. 

Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Dustin Ackley had a hit.  Bird hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Headley committed an error. 

Ben Revere had two hits, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk and Jose Bautista had two hits and an RBI.  Edward Encarnacion had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Justin Smoak had a hit and an RBI and Russell Martin had an RBI.  Ryan Goins had a hit and drew a walk, Kevin Pillar drew a walk and Matt Hague drew a walk.  Smoak and Bautista each hit a double and the Blue Jays were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Pennington committed an error. 

In the first the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead.  Bautista hit an RBI single, Encarnacion hit an RBI groundout and Smoak hit an RBI double.  In the seventh Martin hit a sac fly to make it a 4-0 game.  In the eighth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1 and Bird hit a solo homerun in the ninth to cut it to 4-2 but that would be the final score.

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-0.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and pitched well but made one bad pitch that cost him dearly.  The Yankees offense was shutdown once again only managing three hits. 

Nova pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Nova lost his fourth game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched to two batters and struck them both out and Bryan Mitchell pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs with only one of them being earned.  He struck out a batter. 

David Price pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Price won his 11th game of the season.  Aaron Sanchez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Mark Lowe pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ryan committed an error. 

Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and an RBI, Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk and Bautista had a hit.  Edward Encarnacion had a hit and drew a walk, Justin Smoak had a hit and four RBI and Russell Martin had a hit and an RBI.  Anthony Goins had a hit, Smoak hit a homerun and Tulowitzki hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the sixth Smoak  hit a grand slam to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead.  In the seventh Tulowitzki extended the Blue Jays lead to 5-0 and in the eighth Martin hit an RBI single to make it 6-0 which would be the final score.  The Yankees will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon and stop some of the Blue Jays momentum as their first place lead shrinks. 

The New York Yankees win second in a row in Detroit

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 13-4.  Adam Warren started and after a bad first inning was good.  The bullpen was very good and Chris Young had three hits and Mark Teixeira hit his team leading fifth homerun. 

Warren pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Warren won his first game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two, David Carpenter pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

David Price took his first loss of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up ten hits and eight runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Agnel Nesbitt pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two htis and two runs with one of them being earned.  Nesbitt also struck out one batter, Ian Krol pitched two innings walking two and striking out two and Al Alburquerque pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect inning and Tom Gorzellany pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Young had three hits and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew two walks.  Teixeira had a hit and three RBI with a walk, Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had two hits and an RBI and Chase Headley had two hits and two RBI.  Gregorio Petit had a hit and three RBI and drew two walks, Didi Gregorius had a hit and two RBI and drew a walk and Petit, Gregorius and Young each hit a double.  Beltran and Headley each hit a triple and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 7-17 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gregorius committed an error. 

Anthony Goes drew a walk, Miguel Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Victor Martinez drew a walk.  Rajai Davis had a hit, J.D. Martinez had an RBI and drew a walk, Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI and Nick Castellanos had an RBI.  Alex Avila had a hit and an RBI, Jose Iglesias had a hit and drew a walk.  The Tigers werre 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cespedes committed an error and Iglesias committed an error. 

McCann hit an RBI single in the first, Headley hit an RBI single and Petit hit a three run double to make it 5-0 Yankees.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0 all in the first inning.  In the bottom of the first the Tigers came back with four runs.  J.D. Martinez had an RBI walk, Cespedes had an RBI single, Castellanos grounded into a force out and Avila hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-4.  In the second Beltran hit an RBI triple followed by a Headley RBI triple to make it 8-4.  I don't know if I have ever seen back-to-back triples and if I have it was a long time ago.  In the fourth the Yankees extended their lead to 10-4 on a Gregorius two run double.  Teixeira capped the scoring with a three run homerun in the seventh and it was 13-4. 

The two teams will complete their series with a Thursday afternoon game.  Masahiro Tanaka will face Anibel Sanchez.  The Yankees will look to take the series three out of four and the Tigers will try to earn the split in the series.  The Yankees will then head home after a long ten game road trip and they will face the New York Mets.  The Yankees with a win could also have a great 7-3 road trip.   

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers series preview

The New York Yankees after getting off to a bad start at home have had a good road trip.  They took the first game in Baltimore before losing the next two but then have won the last three in Tampa.  They will now head to Detroit for the next four games.  Detroit has been a hard place for the Yankees to win and they are off to a great start.  It should be a very tough series for them. 

The Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound on Monday night against Alfred Simon.  Simon is off to a good start at 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA.  Sabathia will be in search of his first win as he is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA.  The Yankees keep saying he is pitching better than the results but eventually he has to get on the win column and showing a little more.  Tuesday night Nathan Eovaldi will pitch against Kyle Lobstein.  Lobstein is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA and Eovaldi is 0-0 with a 4.35 ERA.  Wednesday night it will be Adam Warren against David Price.  Price has pitched great so far and Warren has struggled.  Thursday afternoon the series will wrap with Masahiro Tanaka starting against TBA. 

If the Yankees can take one they had an ok trip, if they take two good and anymore then that would be a great road trip.  The Yankees bats have come alive, they hit a lot of homeruns and have the ability to come back in games.  The bullpen has been their strength with Miller closing out games and Dellin Betances has gotten back to where he was last year.  He is pitching well now in the seventh and eighth innings.  The starters have been ok and they can also get better. 

The Tigers have been great this season and have been doing everything right.  They have good pitching and a good offense, their bullpen can still be a problem for them and they aren't great defensively although I would say they are better than they have been.  It should be a good series and I think they will split the four games.   

The New York Yankees lose a tough one to Detroit in extra innings

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3 in 12 innings.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched pretty well and the bullpen pitched well but was down to the last couple of guys left.  Martin Prado and Brian McCann each hit a homerun. 

Kuroda pitched seven innings giving up three runs on six hits.  He struck out five and didn't walk a batter.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Shawn Kelley retired the only two batters he faced and David Huff also retired the only two batters that he faced.  Esmil Rogers pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Rich Hill hit the only batter that  he faced and Matt Daley suffered his first loss of the season.  He pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

David Price pitched 8 2/3 innings giving up three runs on eight hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out ten.  Joba Chamberlain pitched 1 1/3 innings with a couple of strikeouts, Joaquim Soria pitched a perfect inning to earn his second win of the season and Joe Nathan picked up his 23rd save of the season pitching a 1-2-3 inning. 

Derek Jeter had a hit, Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  McCann had a hit and an RBI, Prado had two hits and an RBI and Brendan Ryan had a hit.  Ryan, Ellsbury and Prado each hit a double and McCann and Prado each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Suzuki had a stolen base and McCann had a passed ball. 

Rajai Davis had a hit, Miguel Cabrera had a hit and Victor Martinez had two hits and an RBI.  Nick Castelianos had a hit, Alex Avila had two hits and and two RBI and Andrew Romine had a hit and an RBI.  Romine and Avila each hit a homerun and the Tigers were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Martinez had a stolen base. 

In the first Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the second to tie the game at one.  Ellsbury hit an RBI double in the third to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.   Prado hit a solo homerun in the fifth to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the sixth Romine hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  Avila hit an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at three.  In the 12th Avila hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams have split the first two games and will play game three of four on Wednesday night. 

MLB Trade Deadline Transactions

Here is the rundown of the crazy trade deadline moves that went down.  It was one of the busiest in history which makes it fun for those of us in the baseball world. 

I will start with the team that I cover the New York Yankees.  They made a trade with the Boston  Red Sox which is crazy enough.  It was the first trade between the arch rivals since 1997.  Stephen Drew came to the Yankees to play second base and audition for what will be a vacant shortstop next year.  The Yankees sent Kelly Johnson to the Red Sox.  The Yankee also acquired Martin Prado from the Arizona Diamondbacks for AA prospect Peter O'Brien. 

The Boston Red Sox were the most active team.  They traded pitchers Felix Doubront, Jon Lester and John Lackey.  They traded Lester and Jonny Gomes to the Oakland Athletics for Yoenis Cespedes.  They traded Lackey and minor league pitcher Corey Littrell to the St. Louis Cardinals for pitcher Joe Kelly and outfielder Allen Craig.   The Red Sox also traded reliver Andrew Miller to the Baltimore Orioles for Eduardo Rodriguez a minor league pitcher. 

The Marlins acquired Jarred Cosart, Enrique Hernandez, Austin Wates from the Houston Astros for Jake Marisnick, Colin Moran, Francis Martes and a 2015 competitive balance pick. 

Atlanta Braves acquired James Russell, Emilio Bonifacio from the Chicago Cubs for Victor Caratini

Washington Nationals acquired Asdrubal Cabrera from the Cleveland Indians for Zach Walters. 

The Seattle Mariners acquired Chris Denorfia from the San Diego Padres for Stephen Kohlscheen and Abraham Almonte. 

Minnesota Twins acquire Tommy Milone from the A's for Sam Fuld. 

Brewers acquire Gerardo Parra from D-backs for Mitch Haniger and Anthony Banda.

Wow what a day, at least you have the complete list to refer to now.  I even needed a list as I couldn't remember them all.  It should be a fun final couple of months and now we have to watch the waiver wire to see if anyone will get through and more trades happen in August. 

The New York Yankees lose fourth in a row to drop to 500

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched very well, their offense as has been the norm this season didn't do much at all. 

Kuroda pitched eight innings giving up nine hits and two runs with a walk and seven strikeouts and lost his sixth game of the season.  David Huff pitched an inning striking out two. 

David Price won his seventh game of the season pitching four hits and a run with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched an inning with a strikeout, Grant Balfour pitched an inning walking two and striking out one and saving his 11th game of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Derek Jeter had two hits and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson drew a walk and Yangervis Solarte had a hit and drew a walk.  Jeter hit a double and the Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury and Jeter each had a stolen base. 

Desmond Jennings had two hits, Ben Zobrist drew a walk and Matt Joyce had a hit.  Evan Longoria had two hits, James Loney had two hits and an RBI and Logan Forsythe had two hits and an RBI.  Jennings hit a double and Loney hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Zobrist committed an error. 

In the fourth Forsythe hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the fourth on a throwing error.  The Rays took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a Loney solo homerun and that would be the final score.  The Yankees have now lost four in a row and will try and avoid the sweep on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees on Wednesday night. The final score was 8-3 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. The Yankees were eliminated from playoff contention even before their loss tonight. The Cleveland Indians won their game when the Yankees were still playing which eliminated them. Phil Hughes started for the last time as a Yankee and wasn’t good. The Yankees offensive stars were Robinson Cano and Eduardo Nunez. They each had a couple of hits.

Hughes pitched two innings and gave up seven hits and three runs. He walked one and struck out two and took his 14th loss of the season. David Huff pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Matt Daley faced one batter and retired him, Cesar Cabral pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and David Robertson pitched an inning striking out one. Preston Claiborne pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.

Nunez had two hits and an RBI, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Cano had two hits and an RBI. Vernon Wells drew a walk, Mark Reynolds had a hit and Lyle Overbay had an RBI and drew a walk. Curtis Granderson had a hit, Brendan Ryan had a hit and Nunez and Cano each hit a double. Nunez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Ryan and Soriano each committed an error and Stewart had a passed ball.

David Price pitched seven innings and gave up six hits and two runs. He struck out eight. Brandon Gomes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. Joel Peralta pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and Alex Torres pitched an inning striking out one.

Evan Longoria had three hits and four RBI, David DeJesus had three hits and two RBI and Delmon Young had a hit. Matt Joyce had a hit and an RBI. Desmond Jennings had a hit, Sam Fuld had a hit and Kelly Johnson drew a walk. Myers and DeJesus each hit a double and Loney hit two doubles. Longoria hit two homeruns and DeJesus hit a homerun. The Rays were 5-16 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

In the first inning the teams traded runs. The Rays took a 1-0 lead on a Loney RBI double and the Yankees tied it on a Cano RBI double. In the third DeJesus hit an RBI single and Joyce hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 Rays. The Yankees cut the lead to 3-2 on a Nunez solo homerun in the third inning. In the sixth Longoria hit a three run homerun and DeJesus hit a solo homerun. They were back-to-back homeruns to make it 7-2 Rays. Overbay had an RBI walk in the eighth to make it a 7-3 game and the Rays scored the final run of the game in the ninth. Longoria hit a solo homerun to make it 8-3.

The Yankees have now lost three in a row and their record is 82-76. The Rays are 88-69 and the two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Thursday night.

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees on Saturday night. The final score was 4-2 and the game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. CC Sabathia started and pitched great through five innings. He ended up taking the loss though as he lost it in the sixth inning. Mark Reynolds was the only Yankees with more then a hit.

Sabathia pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Preston Claiborne pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.

Ichiro Suzuki had an RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit. Vernon Wells had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Reynolds had two hits. Austin Romine drew a walk and had an RBI. Granderson hit a double and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Cano committed an error.

David Price pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out five. Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Joel Peralta pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Fernando Rodney pitched a perfect inning.

Desmond Jennings drew two walks, Ben Zobrist had a hit and two RBI and Evan Longoria had three hits and two RBI. Yunel Escobar had a hit, Sam Fuld had two hits and Longoria and Zobrist each hit a double. Longoria hit a homerun and the Rays were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Fuld had a stolen base.

In the fifth Romine had an RBI walk and Suzuki hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. In the sixth the Rays scored three runs. Zobrist hit a two run double and Longoria hit an RBI single. The Rays had a 3-2 lead and added one more in the eighth. Longoria hit a solo homerun and the final score was 4-2 Rays.

The Yankees have now lost two straight after winning five straight. Their record dropped to 68-61. The Rays record improved to 74-53. The teams will play the final game of a three game series on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees will look to salvage the final game.

New York Yankees lose first game of homestand to the Tampa Bay Rays

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 6-4 on Friday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch too well. The Yankees offense was basically Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. David Price started for the Rays and was good. The Rays offense was led by Desmond Jennings and Ben Zobrist. 
Sabathia lost his sixth game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts. Cody Eppley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Clay Rapada pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and Joba Chamberlain gave up an unearned run and a hit in one inning. He struck out two batters. Price won his 18^th game of the season pitching seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Joel Peralta pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and Fernando Rodney pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up a walk and striking out two.

Jeter had two hits, Nick Swisher drew a walk and Rodriguez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk. Robinson Cano drew a walk, Russell Martin had a hit and Raul Ibanez drew a walk. Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Steve Pearce had a hit and an RBI and Eduardo Nunez had a hit. Granderson and Rodriguez each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Nunez committed an error and Martin had a passed ball.

Jennings had two hits and an RBI, Zobrist had two hits and an RBI and B.J. Upton had a hit and an RBI. Chris Gimenez had two hits, Carlos Pena had a hit and drew a walk and Elliott Johnson had a hit and an RBI. Gimenez hit two doubles and Upton hit a homerun. The Rays were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Johnson, Jennings and Thompson each had a stolen base.

In the second Pearce had an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the fifth Johnson hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. Jennings hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Rays. Longoria hit into a double play and a run scored to give the Rays a 3-1 lead. The Yankees cut the lead to 3-2 on a Granderson solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. Zobrist hit an RBI single in the seventh to give the Rays a 4-2 lead. Upton hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-2 Rays. Rodriguez hit a two run homerun in the eighth to make it a 5-4 game. The Rays scored another run in the ninth on an error by Nunez. The final score was 6-4 as Rodney shut the door in the ninth inning easily.

The Yankees for the moment are ½ a game behind Baltimore for first place in the AL East. The Orioles are playing a late West Coast game. If the Orioles win the Yankees will wake up in second place on Saturday morning for the first time in a long time. The Yankees record fell to 81-63 and the Rays record improved to 78-66. The Rays are now three games behind the Yankees and the two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

The Yankees break the losing streak in Tampa

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. David Phelps started for the Yankees and pitched very well. The matchup on paper looked very bad for the Yankees but it didn’t turn out that way. David Price started for the Rays and pitched very well. The Yankees made their comeback against old friend Kyle Farnsworth. Robinson Cano was the star offensively for the Yankees. 
Phelps pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts. Clay Rapada walked the only batter that he faced, Cody Eppley pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out three and Boone Logan picked up his third win of the season. Logan pitched an inning with two hits and two runs and he had two strikeouts. David Robertson pitched an inning walking one and striking out two and Rafael Soriano picked up his 19^th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. Price pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts. Farnsworth took his first loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up three runs with four walks and a strikeout. Jake McGee pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, J.P. Howell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Burke Badenhop pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.

Derek Jeter gave up two hits, Curtis Granderson drew two walks and Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks. Alex Rodriguez had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Cano had two hits and two RBI and Nick Swisher drew a walk. Andruw Jones had a hit and Eric Chavez drew a walk. Rodriguez and Jeter each had a double. Teixeira had a homerun and the Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and they left 10 men on base. Rodriguez had a stolen base and Martin picked off a runner.

Carlos Pena had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, B.J. Upton drew a walk and Ben Zobrist drew a walk. Jose Lobaton had a hit and drew a walk, Sean Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI and Elliott Johnson had two hits. Pena had a homerun and the Rays were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Zobrist, Johnson and Pena each had a stolen base. Rodriguez was picked off.

In the fourth Rodriguez had an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. In the seventh the Yankees tied the game on a solo homerun by Teixeira. In the bottom of the seventh Pena hit a two run homerun to give the Rays a 3-1 lead. The Yankees started their comeback in the eighth inning. Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded to make it a 3-2 game and then Cano delivered a two run single to make it 4-3. The final would be 4-3 as the bullpen for the Yankees would shut it down.

The Yankees lost two out of three in the series. They ended their nine game losing streak at Tropicana Field and will now have an off day on Thursday before heading to Boston on Friday to start a four game series. The Yankees will play on Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night and then Sunday afternoon. The Yankees record improved to 49-32 and the Rays record dropped to 43-39.

The New York Yankees are able to take the series from the Tampa Bay Rays

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 5-3 on Thursday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx,NY. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and was outstanding. He had it all working on this night. Rafael Soriano earned the save in the game as new closer David Robertson had worked two days in a row and thrown a lot of pitches. David Price started for the Rays and the Yankees were able to get to him. Robinson Cano had a strong game as he is coming out of his early season slump. Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson also had good games, Rodriguez also seems to be swinging the bat better. 
Sabathia pitched eight innings giving up two unearned runs and seven hits. He walked one and struck out ten. Sabathia got his fifth win of the season against no losses. Soriano pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run, it was his first save of the season. Price took the loss his second of the season, pitching seven innings and giving up 11 hits and five runs. He walked three and struck out four. Burke Badenhopp pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Andruw Jones had a hit and an RBI, Eduardo Nunez had two hits and drew a walk and Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI. Rodriguez and Jones each had a double. Granderson and Cano each hit a homerun, the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Nunez had two stolen bases and also committed two errors. Swisher had an outfield assist.

Sean Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI for the Rays. Jeff Keppinger had a hit, Carlos Pena had a hit and an RBI and Elliott Johnson had two hits and drew a walk. Gimenez had two hits and Will Rhymes had an RBI. The Rays were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Johnson had a stolen base, Price and Rodriguez each committed an error.

In the first inning Pena had an RBI single giving the Rays a 1-0 lead. Rodriguez had an RBI single in the second to give the Rays a 2-0 lead. The runs came after Nunez committed errors which put them in position to score so they were unearned runs. In the bottom of the second Granderson hit a solo homerun and Stewart had an RBI single to tie the game at two. Cano hit a two run homerun in the fifth to break the tie and put the Yankees ahead 4-2. Jones hit an RBI double to make it 5-2. The Rays scored in the ninth on a Johnson single, stolen base and two groundouts to score him.

The Yankees took two out of three in this series and are tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for third place. The Rays are tied with the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the tough AL East. The Yankees saw their record improve to 17-14 and the Rays record dropped to 20-12. The Yankees will begin a three game series at home against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Andy Pettitte will make his return on Sunday afternoon for the Yankees. It should be a fun and emotional weekend at the stadium. The Yankees are 2 ½ games behind the Rays and Orioles for first place.

The New York Yankees fall to 0-2 with an 8-6 loss to Tampa Bay

The New York Yankees lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 8-6 tonight in St. Petersburg, Florida. Hiroki Kuroda started and didn’t pitch very well. Clay Rapada making his Yankees debut didn’t pitch well either out of the pen. Cory Wade did pitch well. David Price started for the Rays and pitched pretty well, he also benefited from some gopher balls from the Yankees. 
Kuroda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with four of them being earned. He walked four and struck out two. Rapada pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks. Wade pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs and he struck out three batters. Price pitched 6 1/3 innings getting the win. He gave up five hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts. Kuroda took the loss in the game. The Rays used five pitchers out of their bullpen, the pen struggled a little bit with a big lead and let the Yankees get back in the game.

Cano had a double, Granderson had a triple and Swisher hit a homerun. The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Nunez made an error.

Desmond Jennings had a hit and an RBI for the Rays. Carlos Pena had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Evan Longoria had a hit and Matt Joyce had two hits and three RBI and drew a walk. Ben Zobrist had a hit and drew two walks, Luke Scott had three hits and three RBI and Jose Lobaton had a hit. Reid Brignac drew a walk. Lobaton, Zobrist, Scott and Longoria each had a double. Joyce had a homerun. The Rays were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Jennings had a stolen base and Brignac was picked off. Lobaton made an error.

In the first inning the Rays took a 2-0 lead. Nunez made an error and Jennings stole second. There was a runner on third with two outs, Joyce and Zobrist both walked to load the bases and Scott singled home two runs. In the second Lobaton doubled and Pena hit an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game. In the third inning the Rays extended the lead to 4-0 on a Joyce solo homerun. In the fourth inning the Yankees got on the board. Granderson singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jones RBI single. Jones went to third on a throwing error by the catcher, Martin walked and Nunez hit an RBI single. It was 4-2 Rays and Jeter hit a hard shot up the middle that hit off Price glove and he got the last out. In the sixth Zobrist and Scott doubled to make it a 5-2 game. After a couple of outs, Brignac walked and Jennings hit an RBI single to make it a 6-2 game. In the seventh Pena walked and Longoria hit a double. It was ruled a homerun but then overturned after a replay review. The fan reached over and it was ruled fan interference. Joyce singled home the two runs and made it 8-2 Rays. The Yankees rallied in the ninth but came up just short. They had second and third no outs in the eighth but weren’t able to score. In the ninth Granderson tripled and Ibanez hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3. Martin walked, Chavez singled and Swisher hit a three run homerun to make it 8-6. Cano walked and Rodriguez grounded out to end the game. The Rodriguez out was right up the middle and as they have all series the Rays were positioned perfectly.

The Rays have won the series and will look to sweep the three games tomorrow afternoon. The Yankees will look to salvage a game before heading to Baltimore for three games beginning Monday night. Phil Hughes will be on the mound against Jeremy Hellickson.

Yankees vs. Rays-Game Two

Here are the lineups for the Yankees and Rays game tonight at 7:10PM.  Hiroki Kuroda will make his Yankees debut and David Price will pitch for the Rays. 

Yankees Lineup:Derek Jeter(DH), Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, Andruw Jones(LF), Russell Martin, Eduardo Nunez(SS). 

Rays Lineup:Desmond Jennings, Carlos Pena, Evan Longoria, Matt Joyce, Ben Zobrist, Luke Scott, Jeff Keppinger, Jose Lobaton, Reid Brignac. 

Kuroda was 13-16 last season with a 3.07 ERA.  He pitched the last four years with the Dodgers after coming over from Japan.  Price was 12-13 last season with a 3.49 ERA.  Price in his career is 4-2 with a 4.05 ERA against the Yankees.  Kuroda has never faced the Rays. 

The game yesterday was only the second time that Mariano Rivera has blown a save against the Rays.  He was 60-61 and converted his last 27 chances against the Rays. 

The Yankees other big problem from the first game was runners in scoring position.  They left too many men on base and it came back to bite them.  The Yankees after having a 6-5 lead had the bases loaded three times and didn't score.  If they get one hit in those three chances they most likely are going to win the game. 

The Yankees will look to even the series before playing the finale tomorrow afternoon and the Rays will look to take the first two games and ensure a win in the series.
