The New York Mets were defeated by
the Houston Astros by the score of 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The game took place at Tradition Field in
Port St. Lucie, Florida. Dillon Gee started
and pitched well, Carlos Torres didn't pitch well out of the bullpen and the
Mets offense only managed two hits.
Gee pitched four innings giving up
four hits and no runs with a walk and a strikeout. Buddy Carlyle pitched an inning giving up two
hits and a run, Dario Alvarez pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck
out one and Zach Thornton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two
strikeouts. Torres pitched an inning
giving up four hits nad two runs with a walk and Jeurys Familia pitched a
perfect inning.
Curtis Granderson drew a walk,
David Wright had a hit and two RBI and Michael Cuddyer had a hit. Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk, Daniel Muno
drew a walk and Cuddyer hit a double and Wright hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
In the second Monell reached on a
fielding error and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the third WRight hit a two run homerun and
the Mets took a 3-0 lead. In the fifth
Luis Valbuena hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1. In the seventh Jake Marisnick hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 3-2 Mets.
Gregorio Petit hit an RBI single in the eighth to tie the game at three
and L.J. Hoes hit an RBI single to give the Astros a 4-3 lead and that would be
the final score.
The Mets will take on the Yankees
on Wednesday afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.
