The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Washington Nationals on Monday afternoon by the score of 7-6. The game took place at Space Coast Stadium in
Viera, Florida. Bryan Mitchell made the
start and was shaky, Jacob Lindgren pitched well. Chris Young hit a couple of homeruns and
Brian McCann had a homerun.
Mitchell pitched 3 1/3 innings
giving up four hits and two runs. He
walked three and struck out two, Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving
up a hit and a run, Jose Ramirez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a
run and striking out three and Kyle Davies pitched two innings giving up three
hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. Davies took the loss, his first of the spring
and Lindgren pitched a perfect inning.
Brett Gardner had an RBI, Young had
two hits and three RBI and McCann had a hit and two RBI. Garrett Jones had a hit, John Ryan Murphy had
two hits and Brendan Ryan drew a walk.
Aaron Judge had a hit, Tyler Austin drew a walk and Rob Refsnyder had
two hits and drew a walk. Refsnyder hit
a double, Young hit two homeruns and McCann hit a homerun. The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring
position and left six men on base. Nick
Noonan, McCann and Francisco Arcia each committed an error.
In the third Gardner hit an RBI
groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
McCann hit a two run homerun and it was 3-0 Yankees. In the fourth Fister hit a two run single to
cut the lead to 3-2 Yankees. Desmond hit
a two run double to make it a 4-3 Nationals lead. In the fifth Young hit a solo homerun to tie
the game at four. In the sixth Young hit
a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead. An error scored a run in the seven to cut the
lead to 6-5 and Jose Lobaton hit a two run double to give the Nationals a 7-6
lead. The Yankees will play the Detroit
Tigers at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday night. Esmil Rogers makes the start, may be his last
start before the fifth starter officially is named.
