The New York Mets defeated the St.
Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon by the score of 3-2. The game took place in Jupiter, Florida. Dillon Gee started and pitched well for the
Mets. The Mets bullpen pitched well as
well. Lucas Duda had three hits and
Curtis Granderson had a couple of hits to lead the offense.
Gee pitched seven innings giving up
seven hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts. Gee won his second game of the season. Dario Alvarez pitched to one batter and
struck him out, Zach Thornton pitched to two batters and retired them both and
Sean Gilmartin pitched to two batters and struck out both of them. Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and
retired him, saving his second game of the season.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit,
Granderson had two hits and drew a walk and David Wright drew a walk. Duda had three hits and two RBI, Matt
Reynolds had a hit and Anthony Recker had a hit and drew a walk. Ruben Tejada had an RBI and drew a walk,
Johnny Monell had a hit and the Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position
and left nine men on base. Granderson
and Recker each hit a double and Cuddyer had an outfield assist.
In the third Duda hit an RBI single
to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the
third Jason Heyward hit an RBI triple to tie the game at one. Matt Holliday hit a sacrifice fly to make it
2-1 Cardinals. In the fifth Duda hit an
RBI single to tie the game at two. In
the sixth Tejada reached on a fielder's choice and a run scored to give the
Mets a 3-2 lead. The final score was 3-2
Mets.
The Mets will be home in Port St. Lucie to
take on the Florida Marlins on Monday afternoon.
