The New York Mets bullpen wastes a strong outing from Matt Harvey in loss to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 2-1.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched really well.  The bullpen struggled a little bit.  Daniel Murphy led the offense with a couple of htis. 

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a walk.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and striking out one. 

Jason Hammel pitched eight innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Zac Rosscup gave up a hit and Hector Rondon won his second game of the season pitching an inning with a strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Murphy had two hits and drew a walk and Michael Cuddyer had a hit and an RBI.  Lucas Duda had a hit, Dilson Herrera had a hit and Murphy hit a double.  The Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Murphy had a stolen base and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

Dexter Fowler had a hit and an RBI, Kris Bryant had a hit and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Miguel Montero had a hit and drew two walks and Chris Coghlan had an RBI and drew a walk.  Addison Russell had two hits, Russell hit a double and the Cubs were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the sixth Cuddyer hit an RBI groundout giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Fowler hit an RBI single to tie the game and in the ninth Coghlan had an RBI walk to win the game.  The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday afternoon.
