The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Miami Marlins on Monday night.
The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final
score was 2-0. Masahiro Tanaka started
and pitched very well for the Yankees.
Didi Gregorius had two of the teams three hits in the game.
Tanaka pitched seven innings giving
up nine hits and two runs. He didn't
walk a batter and struck out six and lost his second game of the season. Jose Ramirez didn't record an out and gave up
a hit, a walk and hit a batter, Sergio Santos pitched an inning with two strikeouts. He came into the eighth inning with the bases
loaded and no outs and got out of it.
Tom Koehler started for the Marlins
and pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and
five strikeouts. Koehler won his fifth
game of the season. Carter Capps pitched
a perfect inning striking out the side and A.J. Ramos pitched an inning walking
one and striking out two and he picked up
his ninth save of the season.
Brian McCann drew two walks, Mark Teixeira
had a hit and an RBI and Garrett Jones drew a walk. Gregorius had two hits including a double and
Teixeira hit a homerun. The Yankees were
0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Teixeira committed an error. Tanaka had a pickoff.
Dee Gordon had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki
had two hits and Christian Yelich had two hits.
Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Justin Bour drew a walk and Derek Dietrich
had two hits and an RBI. Adeiny Hechavarria
had two hits and an RBI, Dietrich and Gordon each hit a double and Dietrich hit
a homerun. The Marlins were 1-8 with
runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Hechavarria was picked off.
In the second Teixeira hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second Hechavarria hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. In the seventh Dietrich hit a solo homerun to
give the Marlins a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score.
