The New York
Mets were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Tropicana Field in St.
Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-3 Rays. Bartolo Colon pitched ok and the bullpen was
good. Daniel Murphy and Yoenis Cespedes
each had two hits to lead the offense.
Colon pitched 6
2/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with no walks or strikeouts. Eric
O'Flaherty pitched to one batter and retired him and Bobby Parnell pitched an
inning giving up a hit and struck out one.
Chris Archer
pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs with four walks and ten
strikeouts. Xavier Cedeno pitched an
inning giving up a hit and struck out one and won his second game. Steve Geltz pitched an inning giving up a hit
and he struck out one and Jake McGee saved his sixth game of the season
pitching an inning with a strikeout.
Curtis
Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Murphy had two hits and two RBI
and Cespedes had two hits. Juan Uribe
drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and drew a walk and Kevin Plawecki drew a
walk. Murphy hit a double and the Mets
were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
John Jaso had
two hits and three RBI, Evan Longoria had a hit and Logan Forsythe had two
hits. Richie Shaffer had three hits and
an RBI, Brandon Guyer had a hit and Rene Rivera had a hit. Rivera and Jaso each hit a double and Shaffer
hit a homerun. The Rays were 1-4 with
runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
In the second
Granderson drew an RBI walk adn Murphy hit a two run single to make it 3-0
Mets. In the third Jaso hit a sac fly to
cut the lead to 3-1 Mets. Jaso hit a two
run double in the fifth to tie the game at three and in the seventh Shaffer hit
a solo homerun to give the Rays a 4-3 lead and that would be the final
score. The Mets will return home to play
the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. It
is the beginning of a four game series.
