The New York Yankees defeated the
Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 4-3 Yankees. Nathan
Eovaldi started and pitched pretty well for the Yankees. Greg Bird led the offense with two
homeruns.
Eovaldi pitched seven innings
giving up four hits and three runs. He
walked two and struck out eight and won his 13th game of the season. Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out two and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a
couple of strikeouts.
Ervin Santana pitched 7 2/3 innings
giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Santana lost his fourth game of the season
and Trevor May struck out the only batter that he faced.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Alex
Rodriguez drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk. Bird had two hits and four RBI, Chase Headley
had two hits and Stephen Drew had a hit.
Headley hit a double and Bird hit two homeruns. The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
Brian Dozier drew a walk, Joe Mauer
had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Sano drew a walk. Trevor Plouffe had a hit and an RBI, Chris
Herrmann had a hit and Shane Robinson had a hit. The Twins were 2-5 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
In the fourth Bird hit a two run homerun
to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead and in the sixth the Twins tied it on a two run
single by Mauer. Plouffe hit an RBI
single to give them a 3-2 lead in the sixth and in the bottom of the sixth Bird
hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead which would be the final
score. The Yankees swept the three game
series and will begin a four game series at home against the Cleveland Indians
on Thursday night.
