The New York Mets were defeated by
the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon. The game took place at Tradition Field in
Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 12-1. Matt Harvey made the start which was his
final tuneup before Opening Night on Sunday.
Harvey didn't pitch very well in only a couple of innings. Yoenis Cespedes had a couple of hits and
Travis Taijeron also had a couple of hits.
Harvey pitched two innings giving
up two hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Noah Syndergaard pitched three innings giving
up four hits and two runs with a strikeout, Zach Thornton pitched two innings
giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and Hansel Robles pitched an
inning giving up a hit. Jeurys Familia
pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up twohits and five runs with three of them
being earned. He walked two and struck
out one and Antonio Bastardo pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he
struck out one.
Curtis Granderson drew a walk,
Taijeron had two hits and an RBI, David Wright had a hit and Eric Campbell had
a hit. Cespedes had two hits, Juan
Lagares drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit.
Neil Walker had a hit, Ty Kelly drew a walk and Michael Conforto drew a
walk. Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk, Matt
Reynolds had a hit and Cespedes hit a double.
Taijeron hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring
position and left 11 men on base. Duda,
Campbell and Familia each committed an error.
In the first Ryan Zimmerman hit a
three run homerun to give the Nationals a 3-0 lead. In the fourth Jayson Werth hit a two run
homerun pushing the Nationals lead to 5-0.
In the sixth Stephen Drew hit a two run homerun to make it 7-0
Nationals. In the ninth Trea Turner
reached on a fielding error and two runs scored, Reed Johnson hit an RBI single
and Drew reached on a missed catch error to make it 11-0 Nationals. Jhonatan Solano hit an RBI single and it was
12-0 Nationals. In the bottom of the
ninth Taijeron hit a solo homerun to get the Mets on the board and 12-1 would
be the final score. The New York Mets
have finished their grapefruit league schedule and will travel to Las Vegas,
Nevada to take on the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.
