The New York Mets lose to the
Chicago Cubs in Las Vegas
The New York Mets were defeated by
the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night. The
game took place at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, Nevada and the final score was
5-1. Paul Sewald started for the Mets
and pitched well and a host of relievers pitched pretty well. Lucas Duda led the offense with three
hits.
Sewald pitched three innings giving
up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.
Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with
two strikeouts, Chasen Bradford pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and
three runs with one of them being earned and he struck out one and Erik Goeddel
pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up a
hit, Hansel Robles pitched an inning and a run and Addison Reed pitched an
inning with a strikeout.
David Wright had a hit, Yoenis
Cespedes had a hit and Duda had three hits and an RBI. Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Kevin Plawecki
had two hits and Duda hit a double. The
Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Bradford committed an error and Henderson had
a pickoff.
In the fourth Duda hit an RBI
single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In
the fifth Zobrist hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. Kris Bryant hit an RBI single to make it 2-1
Cubs. Trevor Cahill hit a sac bunt and a
run scored to make it 3-1 still in the fifth inning. In the sixth Jorge Soler hit a sac fly to
push the lead to 4-1 and in the eighth Yasiel Balaguert hit a solo homerun to
make it 5-1 and that would be the final score.
The Mets and Cubs will play one
more game on Friday night and then the Mets will head to Kansas City to open the season on Sunday night. Matt Harvey will get the start for the
Mets.
