The New York Mets are blown out by the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-1.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and he didn't pitch well.  Yoenis Cespedes and Asdrubal Cabrera each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits nad three runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  He took his third loss of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Antonio Bastardo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Logan Verrett pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning with two walks and he struck out one and Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Gio Gonzalez won his third game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Felipe Rivero pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Sammy Solis pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Cespedes had two hits and an RBI and Neil Walker drew a walk.  Cabrera had two hits, Eric Campbell had a hit which was a double and Cespedes hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Jayson Werth had two hits and drew three walks, Bryce Harper drew four walks and Daniel Murphy had a hit and two RBI.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Rendon had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks, Danny Espinosa had an RBI and drew a walk and Gonzalez had a hit.  Wilson Ramos had a hit and two RBI, Werth hit a double and the Nationals were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Werth and Rendon each had a stolen base and Rendon was caught stealing. 

In the third Murphy  hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Rendon hit a two run single and it was 3-1 Nationals.  In the seventh Murphy hit a sac fly to push the score to 4-1 Nats.  Espinosa drew an RBI walk and in the ninth Ramos hit a two run single and the score was 7-1 which would be the final score. 

The teams have split the first two games of the series with the final game to be played on Thursday night.
